You gave no indication of this. You clearly wanted others to believe that you were a senior anxiously awaiting a decision from Harvard ("Oh dear, oh dear. What are my chances?"). That is not "asking opinions on reasonable, projected stats," that is flat out lying. It's unfortunate that because of people like you, we cannot read these forums with the minimum expectation that people are being truthful.

That said, I'm not checking this thread anymore.

^XD bets are on she'll reply at least one more time.

Silvestris...when you know that a school like Harvard is so hard to get in to, you really have no need to post your "projected" stats.

It seems to me that when you feel the need to call us "morons" and your every post in this thread is dripping with sarcasm and disdain, you're the one who's being immature. It's exactly this kind of cynicism/bitterness/immaturity that comes across in your essays and can tip the scales against you. Do some self-searching, find somewhere you will be happy and GET OVER IT. Were you really expecting a pity-party when your safety is a GREAT school? If you didn't like it, you shouldn't have applied there. PERIOD. Your life does not suck. You have a house to live in, food to eat, and easy access to a computer. Your life is great. Go be a KID, for God's sake.

Well i am going to defend tthe OP here. My son came out of the college admissions season, and that is what it is, pretty well but he is lucky enough not to be the oldest. Some of his classmates did not do so well. However, I just have to shake my head at this whole process. It is so arbitrary, I just have trouble accepting that this goes on in the United States. I read CC, see the stats and things just don't add up and Chicago is not the worse by far.

i cant believe i read this whole thread but

i think everybody else on this thread needs to chill, so the op lied as a freshman to see what people thought of her projected stats i really dont see what the big deal is. i think ur the ones being whiny and condescending

i understand where the op is coming from (college admissions are biased and stupid) but at the same time yeah u should have picked a safety u liked, uve been on cc long enough to know how unfair the admissions can be and shouldve anticipated a possible rejection from all the top colleges

a lot of ppl are saying the OP is gonna fail cuz of their attitude...hey you never know, maybe his/her ambition will take him/her far

if i were in the situation i guess i would be pretty sad and depressed but I really don't see what there is to be mad about...people work their asses off all the time and they fail...thats just life

Uhhh... but the admissions systems in other countries are even more depressing. At least in America we are sheltered from the degree of competition you see in India, China, Japan, etc. Also, I think that looking at the intangible things like leadership, personality, etc. is a good thing. No study has ever indicated that academic achievement during childhood correlates to success later in life. Once you get into the real world success hinges on the intangibles.

OP:
Sorry this has happened to you, but if you work hard where ever you end up going and distinguish yourself from your peers and be yourself I am sure you will end up getting into a great graduate school and succeeding in life. Just get your act together, process what has happened, and move on. There is no need for you to either diminish the accomplishments of those who did get accepted or to be bitter. It's never going to help you get over this and it will not make you a better person.

I know this is an old post, but why did you give up Caltech and Duke. Which state university did you end up going. Was it due to the cost of attending private schools?
