Lifesci 10h research-genetics

Has anyone taken this course before? How hard is it? What do you feel about the class?

I just took this class in fall.
I really liked it.
It will give you some ideas whether you will like bio research or not, because it
presents nearly all sides of research experience, including grant proposal writing(the best part for me, for i never wrote a grant proposal!!), primary paper reading, bench work, asking questions, and learning the background infomatin through lectures and on your own. I am better equipped with real critical learning and knowing how to learn science - not by reading textbooks, but by reading review papers, and asking professor question.

You should consider this course for career exploration.
As far as workload, it’s a 6-unit class, and it will take at least 10 hours a week in lab and studying lectures.

Dr. Olson, who will be working with LS10 students, is humorous and insightful!.
Dr. Banerjee will be giving 3 lectures in LS10. His lecture style may be a bit boring, but if you see the passion when he presents scientific frontier research, you will know you like science research!!

I highly recommend it for career exploration and discovering whether or not you like research or not. But note that you will be working with fruit flies, so don’t be too biased with research if you don’t like flies :P

Thanks for the info. How did you get approval to sign up for the class?

[UCLA Undergraduate Research Consortium in Functional Genomics - application](http://www.lscore.ucla.edu/research/application.html)
You should get back from Dr. Olson really soon.
Hope you will like this class!! Let me know if you have more questions.

I think it’s in the schedule of class. You might have overlooked. Make sure you read through course description as it gives an estimation of hours needed besides scheduled lab hours.

Thanks for the message. Do you know if freshman can get in LS10H? I will be taking LS2 in Winter. But I took some Bio/Biotech with Lab courses in community college when I was in high school.
