I'm a fairly avid weighlifter and was wondering what the deal with supplements is going to be at the academy. I would imagine you cant have anything during beast but we'd be allowed to during the school year. But without the liberty of a blender I dont know how much you can do. Any cadets or parents with any thoughts on the matter would be greatly respected.

That book that came with all of the paperwork had something about supplements that aren't allowed. Also, that book "Absolutely American" documented, among other cadets, a couple of weightlifters. You could try gleaning some information from that.

Good call..I'll take another look at the instructions to candidates book. I swear Absolutely American is the bible for this forum. I think people on this forum can be separated into three pretty distinct categories:

-Those actually affiliated with WP (parents, cadets, siblings)
-Those who dont have a clue (Uhh...my parents wanted me to apply to West Point do I like need to be friends with my senator)
-And Those who have read Absolutely American

I've read it 3 or 4 times myself. I think its funny. After the first time I skipped the parts about Rash though, not exactly motivational.

-Wannabee :)

Alright..I dont even know what that means. Isnt everyone here a wannabe besides the cadets/parents.

Don't worry; we're only wannabees until June 26.:) Another good read, although very long, is "Once an Eagle" (which, amazingly enough, IS MENTIONED IN "ABSOLUTELY AMERICAN"!). It's a great look at the goods and bads of leadership.

Ive read about 300 pages of Once an Eagle. Great read so far...I'll second the recommendation.

"Alright..I dont even know what that means. Isnt everyone here a wannabe besides the cadets/parents."

i didnt fit into any of your categories so i had to add one.

Haha fair enough..

You can take supplements. There are a lot of really big weight lifters here, my old team leader was one.

This is my first post on here I know, but I saw someone mention Once an Eagle and I had to reply.

As people mentioned, it is a great book, but I don't think they did it justice. This book completely blew me away. I'm a big reader (believe it or not I actually read in my spare time when I can) but nothing I have ever read in fiction that I can think of even remotely compares with the depth the author (Anton Myrer) reaches in this book. And to think that it is fiction! I actually did find out about it in Absolutely American, and yes, I do apply to that third category.

I would have to make a third and very strong recommendation that all potential or accepted applicants read Once an Eagle before heading in for R-day. It will most likely inspire you and teach you a lot. Unfortunately, Beast is all about the crawling phase, so you probably won't be able to put a lot of the concepts to work; but in my opinion, you should still read it just for the experience.

As you can see, I'm very passionate about this book... I just finished it about a week ago after trying to get in reading time before I fell asleep each night for about 6 months! I'm planning on reading it again, just to make sure I don't miss anything. This novel is definitely a necessary read for all of you true hooah wannabe pointers out there!

No supplements during BEAST and expect to loss a lot of weight and muscle mass during the summer. There is almost no opportunity to lift weights unless you are a recruited athlete.

My son lifts at WP. I don't think he has access to a blender but he uses one of those plastic things the supplement company sells - a shaker bottle with a screen in it to help mix the contents.

eat plenty of boiled eggs.

Yea i've seen the shaker cup things at the gym i just didnt realize what they were until you said that. I'll have to splurge and spend the 10 dollars or whatever it is to buy one.

My dad is in to those powder/water protien shakes with the mixers that your talking about. I tried one one day and was on the verge of vomiting in our sink by the time I finished it. It was, without equal, the most disgusting thing I have ever drank.

Yea they arent for the weak, but they really help so they're definetly worth it.

Mumford are you from Connecticut by any chance?

Nope NY, but i'm near the border if that counts near Greenwhich.

Som dude with your name won the state shot put championship yesterday so I thought it might be you.
