Your brutal honesty is greatly appreciated :)

Scholar athlete, good SATs, and number one in your class? U seem like u r definitely qualified. Good luck!

Thanks.
Any other opinions?

race? Your chances are decent, but then again this is Princeton.

Despite my afro hairstyle, I am white
No URM here, unfortunately.

You’re qualified, but there are thousands of qualified applicants. Nobody can put a % to your chances; in the end your chances are either 0% or 100%.

Good luck. It’s a great school.

Haha yeah I know I’m obsessing a bit. I’m just going to submit the most honest representation of myself through my application and hope for the best. When they mail me my decision, I hope that they have a vivid image of the person they just accepted/rejected. That’s really the only way I can tell if I belong there.
Thanks for your help guys.

As an unhooked applicant, your SATs are a bit low.

Princeton is rumored to be a bit more stats-centric in their admissions than other top schools, though I’m not sure how true this is in practice.

SAT of around 2300-2400 puts you at 22% acceptance rate- 1 in 5
Meanwhile, 2100-2290 is more than twice as hard to get in, 9.5%, or 1 in 10.

Perhaps then it is 9.5% for you? Nonetheless, one has to take into account ECs, race, financial status, essays, etc.

Great.

Try to build up contacts with the coach.

@glassesarechic- Yeah I’m aware the odds aren’t favorable with my 2220, which is why I’m going to try to raise my score in December.

@Chesterstreet- That’s an interesting statistic, hopefully I’ll break 2300, but I’m not expecting doing so as this will be my fourth time taking the SAT. 1st sitting- 1330/2080. 2nd-1370/2120. 3rd-1470/2220. Hopefully I have yet to reach my potential

@harisheena- Sorry I didn’t clarify, I am in no way considering playing collegiate sports. Intramural perhaps, but not collegiate. For those of you familiar with the movie, my story on my high-school football team is rather “Rudy-ish” in itself , and I don’t aspire to play in college.

Well, LondonGentleman, since your SAT went up by 40 points, then 100 points, we here at CC expect your next SAT to go up even more. At least to a 2300, OK? So you have a 22% at Princeton. lol…

Athletics is your major hook (as far as I feel) and if you aren’t considering athletics in college, your chances seem to be slim.

@chesterstreet- “We here at CC expect…” this line made me laugh heartily. I like your optimism, but I’m not going to count my chickens before they hatch.

@harisheena- Perhaps I’m just being negative, but I doubt Princeton is looking for guys who are 5’7’’ and 160lbs for their football team. If they are, I will gladly play football for them. And yes, I know my chances are slim, but I still like the feedback I’m getting from this thread. This is Princeton, after all.

Actually, the sprint football team (maximum weight 172 pounds) needs experienced small football players. In recent years the sprint football team has built character and not won games. One reason is the sprint football team coach cannot recommend athletes for special consideration. All players are walk ons.

Even if your chances are one out of X the university admits that one applicant based on teacher recommendations, essays, and character. Good luck!

Wow that’s really cool, PtonAlumnus. If I get accepted, I would like to look into that.

ChesterStreet, your optimism inspired me. Now I have that 22% chance
SAT 4th Sitting Results:

750 M
790 CR
780 W

2320!

^NICE! congrats on the great score

Your new SATs are great. Hopefully they will get you in.

You cannot get the feel of a university by looking at the buildings, reading the awards gathered by the faculty, or knowing the average SATs of the freshman class. Reading about individual students can provide an insight into the student body.

Here is a link to a story about a football player at Princeton. He was not a recruited athlete. He walked on to the football team. He excelled and was named to the all Ivy football team and elected captain of the football team. However, Jordan did not feel right at practice and was later diagnosed with a very rare life threatening disease. When the doctors were trying to prevent him from dying his concern was that by being in the hospital he would not support his thesis buddy. [Note LG that his thesis buddy is on the sprint football team.] Jordan Culbreath is the type of student at Princeton that continues to make me proud of the university and the quality of students that attend the university.
