A friend of mine has a brother applying to Hotchkiss for a Post Graduate year. He recently got a call that said he had an extremely high chance of getting accepted with a full ride. I don't know his stats, but I expect he's a pretty impressive kid, because his sister, my friend, is a remarkable child--extrordinarily gifted with music. Does that happen often? Would they ever do that with ninth graders?

hmm, thats funny. but wow, he must be quite gifted for them to do something like that. geez, id apply to exeter or something if i were him!
lol it must run in the family...

was he an athlete? if so, that's definitetly why.

No, he's not an athlete. I don't know much about him, but I expect he's rather extrodinary, like his sister.

Does anyone know if prep schools ever send "likely letters?" That may just be a university thing, but I'd be interested to know.

I didn't receive a letter but when I visited each school for the interview the Director of Admissions sought me out. He/She came and introduced him/herself to me and my dad in the lobby, talked to us for awhile. I noticed that they didn't do that with any other candidates so I figured it must be a good sign. Was accepted at all schools that I applied to: Choate, Deerfield, Andover, Exeter, Hotchkiss, and St. Marks (safety school).

Yes, I suppose they would do something more subtle. That's good, because St. Mark's did something similar to me. Could such be a fluke, though.

it's highly possible for this case if he's extraordinary..really ..like her sister, at music.
music and arts is the major area where hotchkiss is dumping their money and effort in at this moment, we just finished building a 80million world class facility, the hand-made antique fazioli piano, we have a world class pianists married couple who plays at carnegie hall regularly...now we have to expand that department, so why not? we definitely need some world class kids in this department to justify the almost 100million dollars spent...and a musically talented PG suits this case...
and i doubt they ever do this to ninth grader, unless from a coach to a recruited athlete

I recieved a e-mail from exeter from the a coach and from the admissions office saying "meet our students" it was an online thing before i got my acceptance letter but after I had submitted my application.

I do not believe he's into music like his sister.
