Likely letter 2017

@storme, Congrats. You are in provided you finish high and maintain your current level of performance. My child got it last year and he got the official letter later on decision day. What is your intended major?

Thank you! I’m crossing my fingers for that outcome. I applied to Materials Science, but I might switch to bio or electrical depending on how interested I am in the research and the job prospects.

this is only for engineering?

Received mine last night as well. @Princeton. I believe only the School of Engineering sends these out.

Got one very positive letter from engineering dept. If the final decision will be announced before the end of March and you are invited to the open house on April/14, you should know what it means.

I got one too! Are we positive this is a likely letter though? Or did everyone receive it?

I applied to engineering and I got a regents invite but not this. Anyone know what this could mean?

I got mine last night and it definitely means you got in if you received it because at the end of the email, it says something about completing the UCLA weekend by going to Bruin Day. Even though the email also states that it’s too early for decisions to be released, Bruin Day is the day for admitted students and their parents to visit the school. Congrats, guys!

Is everyone who got this in California or on the West Coast so far…? I’m just wondering if they’re doing them by region like UCSD was with calls.

I’m up in Washington State and got this email this morning

Are all these likely letters only for engineering? Has anyone received one for any other majors? If so what major and when? Thanks.

Got the same thing, but I didn’t read it until I saw this thread. Still, it’s nice to be accepted :)

Northern Cal. Got this email yesterday. Applied for chem engineering

To whoever was asking if it was by region, I live in Massachusetts and I got it at the same time as everyone else.

I’ll full-blown shocked that I got it considering I’m OOS, didn’t really think I had a shot!

CC is making me overly optimistic. (Ironic much? :P)

Does letters and sciences give likely letters?

Got it and in Alabama.

Do your stats have to be extremely high to get one? Just out of curiosity…

I freaked out when I saw mine xD. Then did some hardcore research to find out whether it was really the likely letter. Yes, it definitely is. Congrats everyone!

But unlike Ivies, I don’t think the letter is strictly reserved for the top of top at LA (that’s more regents, I think). It seems to be given to more like a strong pool of clear admits. More like the top of the middle, if that makes any sense. Regents is the highest honor UCLA can give you, and I guess this is the next best thing.

For those asking, the College of Arts and Architecture also sends out “likely letters” in March.

@ace I think it’s actually the top of the top (for engineering) because the email states that we are “highly competitive” applicants. Also, Regents has nothing to do with these likelies (I was invited to apply but didn’t).
