Yay, Elvito! Those personal notes were great, right? Hey, I'm curious--how many of you AMS people are planning to go to Colgate for sure? My D hasn't made a final decision--waiting to see what other schools do--but this is mighty hard to imagine passing up!

Wow! Congratulations to you guys!!!!!!!!!

I hope I could be accepted as this scholar too!!!!

BTW, who of you know whether the Admissions Office have sent out all of the letters or not?

Congratulations to all. Hopefully I'll get some good news too.

Real time update:

I actually just received a mail from Colgate. It's somewhat thin so I was a little scared. I was hoping it was a likely letter and it turned out to be this generic letter Gate sends out to all its applicant...Argh. You probably all got one too, or you will get one.

Are these AMS and acceptances all sent Fed Ex?

Nope. We live in the Northeast and it came in the regular mail on Wednesday. Really, we don't know much about it except what was in the packet. Modadunn, I think you're right--it seems that the AMS is an honor award, and the financial side of it depends on your individual circumstances. In other words, it's not a set monetary award, but there are lots of perks to being a part of it.

hey everyone! I got accepted as an AMS also! :) My favorite part of the whole thing was the little hand written note at the bottom, I found that so personal. I applied to 12 schools, and as I think it over this opportunity sounds better and better.. I would love if anybody could tell me why Colgate is one of their top schools (to help me make my decision!).

I got accepted too! congrats, everyone.

Is getting AMS an indicator that someone will get into other top schools too?

The only things that Colgate ever sends FedEx are to international students, particularly those in very rural locations who may get their regular mail slower than others. Everything within the United States is sent regular USPS, so account for location and distance when figuring out if/when you should hear from them (people in NY/NJ/PA usually hear a few days before CA/OR/WA).

For everyone who has been accepted AMS, where do you live?

To all of you who received the AMS packets, congratulations!

My D is an AMS senior, and her first college acceptance was from Colgate. I wanted to let you know that her FA offer was very generous for all of her years; she received significantly more aid for her semester in London and Colgate even eliminated the Stafford loan portion in her senior year!

It's hard to know how FA will shape up over the next few years, but Colgate treated my D very well.

DadofB&G--Thanks so much for the encouragement! This offer is certainly fabulous, and my D is seriously considering it. Just out of curiosity, what was your D's major? What does she like best about Colgate? Has being an AMS scholar been an advantage in ways other than financial? What other schools was she looking at? These are things we're all wondering about!

Cadence,

She is an English major, and generally liked the courses in her major.

As far as what she likes "best," that's not really pertinent because she'd tell you she likes the people she's made friends with, the groups she's been active in (a cappella and school tours), etc. - much the same as at any school. She did find the wealth of many students a bit off-putting initially, but is inured to that by now.

She was primarily interested in other NE LACs; she was waitlisted at couple of reaches and had good offers from some safeties - I think Hamilton came closest to Colgate in terms of an alternative similar in both selectivity and FA offer.

Honestly, she didn't get anything out of the AMS program besides an early offer and, I think, preferential aid. Many kids do participate in special programs and dinners and take advantage of the offer to do their own research, but she was busy enough without those opportunities and doesn't regret her decisions.

Congrats to everyone who got one! Likely letters are always good news. :)

hey! I'm an international from Romania. what does it mean when you get a standard letter with a personal message for you ( it said -in handwriting- "best wishes for a great high school career, my first name") and then I got a letter from a student there telling me what great opportunities Colgate had to offer and saying that I could contact her in case I needed more information; also got 2 postcards. does this mean anything?
thanks

should I call and say thanks?

chopin, it nice correspondence but I believe everybody got those mailings.

ok.. just wondering :D I think I'm the only one in my area who has ever applied to college in the U.S.

Chopin: those letters are somewhat generic. Colgate has a (good) tendency to keep a good correspondance with students that applied to the school.

ok,thanks :)
