I just have one thing to say:

After reading this thread, if I were a Harvard adcom I'd take savvy over these skeptical guys calling her mediocre in a heartbeat.

After reading this thread, if I were a Harvard adcom I'd take savvy over these skeptical guys calling her mediocre in a heartbeat.

However, you're not a Harvard adcom so you should just shut the **** and avoid making such dumbfounded statements.

wow we are so nervous...

evilasiandictator: You don't have to take my post so literally. I was simply pointing out that from the thread, she shows that she has a great personality and admirable character, which may have attributed to her likely letter, unlike some other posters who have resorted to personal attacks that are uncalled for. (such as yourself)

vicissitudes, I think it's also important to remember that people are different on an online, confidential forum than in real life. Oftentimes, "personality" is really how well people interact with others in person. But on CC, their true thoughts come out since they have no interest in being nice, etc.

Well, it's one of my pet peeves. Just because you're posting in an online forum doesn't mean you can disregard your manners. I think some people don't bother to be polite because of the internet anonymity; they don't have to take responsibility for what they say, and that bothers me.

That still takes away from the argument that the posters on this thread are less deserving of Harvard than savvy...

screw manners. manners are for people who are too afraid to speak the truth.

Or they're for people who subscribe to the elusive idea of "honor" and wish to preserve unbiased truth. They check the degredation of objectivity, so to speak...as in, if we were minding our Ps and Qs on this thread, we wouldn't be so quick to make fools of ourselves by jumping down savvy's throat.

I'd hate to interrupt the argument, but
I received a likely letter from H today
=)

congrats, tsr!

So has anyone heard of someone getting a likely letter then geting rejected?

yeah, I'd like to know.....chews on fingernails

thanks. i'd really like to know as well.

tsr--Congrats!!!!!!! It doesn't need to be said how great that is ;) I would fully expect an acceptance letter unless your midyear grades are a real eyesore. If you're truly worried, you can call your regional admissions director for reassurance :) What I've heard, though (this is from my communications with my regional adcom at Yale, as I was worried about the same thing you are!) is that the people who are concerned that their grades aren't good enough usually are fine, and the ones who should be concerned usually aren't :p Are you planning on going to Cambridge in the fall, then, or waiting on other decisions as well?

Any interest, by the way, in posting your stats so the rest of us can call you unqualified? :)

Well, that would be silly. And deceitful. I really hope Harvard wouldn't stoop to that level.

aahhhhh are 1 b and 1 B+ an eyesore? (to me they are)

saibondy, a B and B+ aren't an eyesore, esp. if you go to a competative school. I'm more worried about my A- at a totally noncompetative public HS.

blah, stats are why i dislike CC...

i had good teacher recs, a great interview, a perfect GPA in all honors courses, decent scores (770V 800M), etc.
i'm from a small public school in Arkansas; i think that helped. I went to RSI. & there are several other things that I'm sure no one wants to hear, but that i'll bring up if i'm deemed unqualified ;-)

I do plan to be in Cambridge in the fall...
if not at Harvard, then MIT (accepted EA).

tsr--You didn´t deserve to get a likely letter. Ew. :p

As for eyesores...a B and B+ are absolutely fine if they aren´t deviations from your previous record. If they are (if they´re your first Bs), you MIGHT want to talk to the adcom just for reassurance. It probably shouldn´t make enough of a difference to turn a likely (AKA a super-accept, lol) into a reject. Of course, if you have some good reason for the grade drop and make that known, that certainly helps.
