Likely Letters

Just wondering if Harvard started sending academic (non-athletic) likely letters yet :p

Post if you got one!

they have indeed; i saw on posts that CCers have gotten them. I am still fuzzy on the “qualifications” one must have for one, since “academically gifted” has soo many subjective meanings.

Perform a search (Or…just glance down the first page of posts) and you’ll find your answer.

I’m so excited! I just checked my mail and discovered a likely letter from Harvard. They didn’t call or send an e-mail, just postal correspondence.

About two weeks ago, I received a likely letter from Yale.

I am not an athlete either, my accomplishments are purely academic.

In the case that you’re not a ■■■■■, what epicly fantastic hook(s) do you think have gotten you your likely letters?

Yes what makes you so special?

Most likely a ■■■■■…see his/her previous posts.
OP posted the following in June

If he/she claims his/her “accomplishments are purely academic”

I don’t see how his/her test scores correlate to his/her “fabulous” academics…

Also, he/she received the alleged likely letter the day after he/she posts this?
Seriously, grow up.

I ended up retaking the ACT and getting a 34 composite.
I got very high scores on two subject tests, and an okay score on the third.

My accomplishments were academic in nature. My hook dealt with charitable work and creative expression.

The letter from Yale is more of a likely letter because it states “you are LIKELY to receive admission to the class of 2014” while Harvard’s letter states that “you have received admission to the class of 2014” and says “We hope you make Harvard your college choice”.

I don’t really know how else I can prove that I received these letters. If you any questions or suggestions feel free to post them.

You could scan your letter, upload it to the net and post the link. It was probably your charity and creative work that saw you through because your testing stats are quite common, and many outstanding applicants with those scores get rejected.

Is Harvard allowed to phrase their likely letters like that? I thought Ivies couldn’t confirm admission until the Regular Decision notification date?

I don’t want to rain on the parade though. If you have in fact received those letters, some congratulations are definitely in order! :)

I’d scan the letter, but are there any issues associating with posting this letter on the internet? I just want to be sure it’s okay to do this before I actually do this. Sorry for being so paranoid in advance.

Nope there aren’t any issues. And after reading this

I’m guessing you’re a ■■■■■. Harvard LL are no different than LL from any other Ivy League school in that they cannot explicitly state you have already been accepted.

That person is a ■■■■■. I got a likely letter from Harvard(athletic recruit), and it did not say anything like "you have received admission to the class of 2014.

Just browsed through your past posts, you can be recruited at Harvard for Gymnastics/Cheerleading? I wasn’t even aware that those were varsity sports offered at Harvard.

Darn. You caught me. :frowning: It wasn’t for “gymnastics” but I did get recruited for a varsity sport.

hmm… sounds mysterious. Care to elaborate diamonds? I’m not doubting, I’m just curious :)

Eh whatever I won’t question further, but I’m not so sure of the authenticity of your claims.

Cardsecret is correct. The Harvard Likely states “I am delighted to report that the Admissions Committe has asked me to inform you that we will offer you a formal letter of admission to the Class of 2014 on April 1.” I have it in my hand as I type ; I received mine today as I was recruited for a sport.

@cardsecret I was wondering if they made mine special or something, as I took the SATII’s on the jan date and my letter says “in making that decision we assume that you will maintain your current academic and personal standards and that we receive the results of your SAT II Tests.”

What? Mine doesn’t say that. Do they have different versions?

I just looked at my daughter’s, and it reads just like BigMakk’s and then says, “we send such an early positive indication only to outstanding applicants.” I was very surprised it did not use the word “likely” at all. It is just subject to maintaining academic and personal standards.
