Likely Letter - Coming Out at March

Ok, but if you don't get one it's alright. That's all I'm saying. I'm sure you'll do fine if you gave it your all during the application process. And college isn't the end all and be all of everything. Just ask Harvard drop-out Bill Gates! LOL, just relax. Take a deep breath and collect yourself. Jumping up and down like an impatient toddler won't make the letter come any sooner, or at all for that matter. So just wait... and wait... and...

...Jon :)

P.S. I'm off for tonight (seriously). G'night!

nah im cool. i applied to a lot of places, the majority of which i enjoy, so im actually cool.

i just want one!

Haha.. well good night and good luck (and no, I wasn't referring to the movie).

-Jon :)

that was a good movie, i must say

APDoolittle--Excuse me?? I thought savvy's post was amazing, I was COMPLETELY joking about the capitalization thing. Now I don't exactly see myself moaning anywhere about getting deferred from Harvard and I rather take offense at the suggestion that I ever did that. When have I flaunted my credentials or otherwise been at all arrogant? When have I EVER asked "Why me?". Please find me that post because I certainly don't recall it. I didn't like the decision but that's because I want to go to Harvard, NOT because I think the admissions committee made the wrong choice. I never expected to get into Harvard and I certainly don't expect to see an acceptance letter come March. I realize I have a chance but if I don't make it my reaction will NOT be one of indignance. I'm not the ideal candidate by any stretch.

If that wasn't meant to be a personal attack then it ended up being one because you accused me of a number of things I never did and would never do.

are you crazy guitar?

ill be amazed if you dont get an acceptance letter

no one turns down finalists.

I won't be. Besides making Intel, nothing much new has happened to me since my deferral. It's Harvard and the decisions can swing any way. Of course, I realize there's a chance I'll get in and that would be amazing beyond belief, but you can never expect it. Well, unless you're savvy and you got a likely :p Besides, even if Harvard says no, I can go to a similarly amazing school (the likely was from Yale), so no need to worry :)

guitar...you are insane. how many times do i have to tell you.

not even harvard rejects intel finalists.

hehe, thanks :) I hope you're right..............

Congrats, again, to those who got likely letters!

GuitarMan, congrats on intel finalist--my school also produced one (the one and only in washington state). although i'm not a math-science person (and yet i'm an asian--imagine that!), i know what an impressive accomplishment that is. i think you definitely deserve to go to whichever school you most desire. btw, it was very clear you were joking about the lack of capitalization of savvy's post...i've seen you on many posts and i think you're always very humble and very polite. kudos on being a great person!

so...i'm asking again if anybody who got a likely letter is willing to scan it and let me see what it looks like? no stalker, i promise, just curious.

BTW: january SAT scores came out today...so happy!!!!!

I could put mine up. THen we could discuss if it was a hoax... (I'm still in denial, despite the handwritten "hope to see you here in september!" by the dean of admissions)

i hear they're actually written with a pen machine, but seriously who cares, a likely letter is a likely letter

Mine was worded exactly like the one linked to earlier in this thread. Literally word-for-word, with the exception of specifics like my name and this year's admissions dates (and chopsticks, thank you, that's very kind :)).

sailbondy, that would be fantastic if you could put yours up!

...and I'm sure it's not a hoax. I'm so happy for you! Are you RD or EA deferred?

I applied RD and had my interview about two days before the committee met for my region. (early feb)Talk about....I don't know, something? Rapidity?

Well, whatever it is it worked, lol, so congrats!!!! :D So, will you be in Cambridge next fall, then?

I'd looove to be. HOly crap. THe thing is, we're still kind of in the dark about FA.I mean, the EFC is 3x what I think my parents should pay (ideally, they pay nothing because I got maddd outside scholarship money, but we'll see)- how does that work exactly? the college reduces its grant when you have a lot of outside money? does that mean the scholarship money DOESN'T reduce the EFC?

I mean this is harvard. they could admit everyone that applies, and have them come free, in perpetuity...

Does anyone notice that arrogance often masks insecurity? The most arrogant people I know are often butting heads to prove supremacy.

Perhaps those with an entire lifetime of extreme accomplishment and superior intellect really have nothing to be afraid of, nothing to prove, and thus are not arrogant at all?

Yet we, as teenagers with everything to prove can be the most arrogant of all.

Just a thought...

saibondy, after you top $4,000 a year in outside scholarships, it gets taken off of your financial aid. This is why I am not applying for a bunch of scholarships. Any more than $4,000 per year is worthless.

This is the case for every school offering need based financial aid, except at other schools it might be slightly more or less than 4k.

Tupac--Are you serious????? ~sigh~ If you put on your app that you're applying for financial aid, is it generally a good idea to let them know if you've decided against it, or would it be unnecessary?
