Likely Letter? Maybe...

it's saying the school is really impressed with your application, and "unless it turns out that your ECs include throwing rocks at kittens, you probably can count on acceptance" (Nikeswooshguy).

so, if you get a likely letter, you are pretty much guaranteed acceptance?

yup. the way i see it, the college sees that you'll be competitive not only at their school, but at other schools as well. They want to recruit the best and the brightest.

sorry to ask so many questions...

so, does a person respond to these likely letters. are people who receive them supposed to accept admissions or just wait until everyone gets their decision?

no, you don't accept or anything. It's not an official acceptance (i don't think they're allowed to do that). They're saying... "you're pretty much in. Don't worry about it". You'll get your real acceptance on april first, i presume.

You get your "official" admission with the other RD candidates and respond then. It's kind of a psycholgical ploy to get you emotionally committed, but it sude does help you relax.

okay, thanks for clarifying that for me suze and pongo. i think i understand the concept now.

hehehe, italianlovin, i was really confused about the whole concept of likely letters too...

yea i got the same one from harvard... probably didnt get in though

did you really get the same one from harvard, BestMiler?

congratulations!!!!!!

If you got it you're in.
