I received this " a message for you from RPI Dean" this afternoon. Is this a likely letter?
Hello, .All of us at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute were delighted to receive your application. I understand that the Office of Admissions will be notifying students of their admission decisions on March 12, so the anticipation is building!
In the meantime, I want to extend to you a personal invitation to visit campus, if convenient, and get acquainted with the place where brilliant minds like yours launch exceptional careers.
If you cannot make the trip in person, a great way to stay connected is to go Inside Rensselaer and explore how we are transforming the globe through technology and innovation. For example, our president, Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, was just awarded the National Medal of Science by President Barack Obama. This pre-eminent award recognizes outstanding leadership in the physical, biological, mathematical, engineering, or behavioral and social sciences–and we could not be more proud of her dedication to our students.
No matter what academic path you ultimately gravitate towards …, you would be an exceptional fit with the Rensselaer community, and I am thrilled to ask a student of your caliber…
@labyrinth1997, my son received the same email today. He did not mention the links. What was it specifically that make you think it is a likely letter? The content of the email is certainly positive sounding.
Unfortunately, similar to WPI, the cost of attendance is so high I do not expect that RPI will be an option for my son. Fortunately he has some choices at in-state California schools.
@saddanr The visit campus link takes to you to an accepted students visiting calendar.
I heard that RPI is pretty generous in scholarships. I received a RPI medal in my junior year, which guarantees a minimum $15000 per year once accepted. I have UMich at my hand and I’m still waiting for a few to come out in March, but depending on scholarship offers RPI might be high in my list since it’s a pretty good engineering school with good location + resources.
My son says he did not see any such email.
Not sure what it means, but as it invites a visit, I would hope that is not something they would encourage unless acceptance is coming. We already visited months ago. Did those who received the email, make a documented trip there in the past (registered with adm?).
I would assume they would encourage visits before informing students even if that isn’t likely letter. That is how many schools assess interest. Most schools send out material suggesting visits prior to accepting students. Then they designate specific dates or weekends after the acceptance which they Call “Accepted students weekend” or “College Preview Weekend”. From what is posted here, it does not suggest a specific weekend like “I hope once you are accepted you come for College Pre-view Weekend on March 14th” for example. It is just a general suggestion to visit the campus and keep RPI in your thoughts. The letter does sound positive but it is hard to know if that is a likely letter or is just being sent out but a regional admissions rep or what.
I guess we will know for sure on March 12. The link from the “visit our campus” in the email to a registration page for accepted applicant visits would seem inappropriate if it is not a likely letter.
@sddanr. That’s also what I think. Also the last sentence “you would be an exceptional fit with the Rensselaer community, and I am thrilled to ask a student of your caliber…” is pretty positive
Did any of you get a post card that says check your application status? Also it says learn our final decision on the above site at 7p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016.
