I know there are plenty of topics on this already, but this is Cornell 2011 specific.

"Your application to Cornell University has been reviewed by the admissions selection committee, and I am writing to let you know that you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell."

No subtlety whatsoever. Now I know why they're called likely letters.

I guess average applicants such as myself can get them too? Perhaps Cornell had a low yield last year?

Are likely letters 100% for sure?

By the way, I applied RD to Arts and Sciences. Anybody else?

I got the same letter yesterday. It seems rather certain, if you ask me.

They're usually used as a way to inform strong applicants that they are "accepted", in the fear that you'll accept another offer before they release their official decisions.

So I would say there's little to no chance of being denied at this point.

I quite liked the tone of the e-mail, formal but not scary and also informative. My mother says she has been very impressed with her first experience of US College PR too after reading it! hehe.
