Likely Letter

I know there are plenty of topics on this already, but this is Cornell 2011 specific.

"Your application to Cornell University has been reviewed by the admissions selection committee, and I am writing to let you know that you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell."

No subtlety whatsoever. Now I know why they're called likely letters.

I guess average applicants such as myself can get them too? Perhaps Cornell had a low yield last year?

Are likely letters 100% for sure?

By the way, I applied RD to Arts and Sciences. Anybody else?

I got the same letter yesterday. It seems rather certain, if you ask me.

They're usually used as a way to inform strong applicants that they are "accepted", in the fear that you'll accept another offer before they release their official decisions.

So I would say there's little to no chance of being denied at this point.

3 for 3. YEAHYAH!

that is basically like 99% certainty, but yea most likely you got in already, that 1 % is based on your senior year grades.

Are you guys URMs ? (nowayjose, neovincci, lincolnshask)

You mean underrepresented minority? Yes, I'm black.

Does anybody know if international students get likely letters?

Likely letters are not just sent to URM's.

Well do you know any non-URMs who applied to CAS and received a likely letter ?

yes internationals and asians who applied to CAS get likely letters. I'm someone who fits the profile and got a likely email today.

I don't think it's asians... But clearly URMs and international students got likely letters. Dang.

well u'll fine out soon enough 15 days is just around the corner. Im sure u'll do great

south korean international, applied to engineering, got a likely letter today

I got a likely letter (CAS)! URM and "international" in that I'm living abroad but am American.

I quite liked the tone of the e-mail, formal but not scary and also informative. My mother says she has been very impressed with her first experience of US College PR too after reading it! hehe.

by the way, i always do not get what URM is.....
can someone explain....

Under-Represented Minority

Namely, blacks and hispanics.

NON URM FROM MARYLAND got a likely letter for CAS (I am not Black nor Hispanic) either.

So the only int'ls receiving likely letters or emails are those who applied to CAS?
