"Likely Letter"

What do they letters say? Who are the sent to?

Some (not all) colleges send "likely letters" to their top applicants. The wording varies, but it generally says something to let you know that you will be hearing good news in a few weeks. Another variation is the "early write" letter, in which an applicant is flat-out told they are accepted in advance of the usual notification date.

You also see those letters when a student is applying to a specialty program and is admitted to the specialty program, but not yet to the university.

They basically read...."..based upon an initial review of your application, it is LIKELY that you will receive a FAVORABLE admission decision to ________ when we send out formal notifications.

they are also used by the IVYS for recruited athletes in lieu of NLI signings.

in a nutshell.

if you get one..you're in.

This is an oft-asked question. Do a search and you'll get all the info you need.

Basically don't worry about it. It's used for a very slim portion of the incoming freshman and about 99.5% of people never get one.
