"Likely Letters" from Ranked Schools?

If you don’t match to any school with the only reason being that you don’t qualify financially for the 4-year scholarship (EFC may be too high), do you think the school will let us know on Friday or in the following weeks? Is it possible that they will tell something like “We would love to have you at our school so consider applying ED”?

It would be nice to know if I would be admitted to the school in the next round so I know which one I should consider switching to ED for.

In other words, do they make it explicitly known why you did not match? (Academic or Financial reasons)
Have any of you heard from previous QuestBridge finalists about this?

Usually most of the schools will write and invite you to apply ED or RD if they find you suitable. They wont offer you admission but their letter will tell you they find you very qualified even though you did not match to Questbridge. Its usually not restricted to the schools you ranked. My daughter was a finalist last year and four schools, Williams, Amherst, Pomona and Duke wrote similar letters to her. She ended up applying ED to Amherst and got accepted right away, all in the space of a week or so.

Glad it worked out for your daughter, Thetipa. HalaMadrid, this is a very important question for non-matched students. Thanks for bringing it up. This is exactly the question we are mulling over in our house.

It is very easy to do blanket emails. Our QB College Prep son got “invited” to several fly-ins, but that did not mean he was accepted. A rep from one school gave a phone call with input on how to strengthen profile, but it was a routine conversation with nothing super revealing (i.e., raise your standardized test scores to be more competitive). I got the feeling that it was definitely a supportive act on their part, but not committal enough to warrant giving it much importance, either.

A phone call would be much more convincing, or at least an email from a rep’s personal address.
