Wouldn’t that be the actual letter instead of a “likely letter”?
Not a huge problem, didn’t think much of the email anyway apart from wondering why they sent me an email that had nothing to do with my application xP Only thought about it when I looked through this thread.

@Raith, I think that that’s a likely letter!! Mind PMing me which university you are talking about??

MRU93Raith: Sorry for the ambiguity. What I meant was that the likely letter did not include any reference to specific programs at the college. It focused solely on D’s record and the certainty of acceptance. The other stuff came later – either with or soon after the actual acceptance letter. The type of communique you got is unknown to me. Doesn’t really seem to be a likely letter since it has no obvious connection to the admissions people, but you wouldn’t think the program would waste money sending information to people who have no chance of being accepted, so it would at least seem to be an indication you’ve made a cut of some sort. Good luck!

I ended up checking the university’s CC forum… turns out a lot of people on CC seem to have received the same email… probably just some advert (like I know MIT constantly sends out newsletters, unless you specifically request not to get them), so I think it was more along those lines.
I’ll be hopeful and think more along your lines it appeals to me more than just some random advert to people on their mailing list haha!

At least I know what to look out for if I got a Likely Letter… though I doubt I will, nothing exceptionally outstanding really c’est la vie!

Good luck to you too (unless you’ve been accepted in which case… congrats!) :)

MRU93Raith: Likely Letter language is not ambiguous. They say words to the effect of “Come the end of March you will receive an offer of acceptance”.

Anything short of that IS NOT a Likely Letter.

MRU93Raith: I’m the parent of a 13 not “competition” – but, oh, to be 18 again. I’d definitely apply to Dartmouth in my next life. ;-)

Sorry, I revert on my previous post!! On reading a major part of the email(that Raith PMed me)- It seems just like one more strategy to keep applicants interested in their university!! :)

Yea guys, sorry… a lot of people applying to the same uni got the same email. Some didn’t, but a lot did. So definitely not a likely letter.

No one has gotten a likely letter yet?

Even four years ago, D’s did not come until the middle of February.

But last year and the year before, it came out around jan 30 - 31. Also, on thedartmouth.com, it said that late january was when it will be sent.

^^ The Dean actually said late January to early March.

[TheDartmouth.com: Applications decline by three percent from last year](http://thedartmouth.com/2013/01/10/news/admission)

I’m trying to encourage you not to fret. :)

Won’t the majority of us not get them anyway?? I thought it was only for athletes or something…

Sorry to cause a downer :’)

Well the from indicates that the first wave should have been sent already. Also, likely letters in Dartmouth are different. They send it to 25% of the admitted students.

@lemming101 - Yeah most of us won’t get one anyway!! I know I won’t get one at all. But still once someone gets one and hopefully posts his/her stats - then we can get to know what Dartmouth(or any other university) is looking for!! :D

But I guess THEbomb is holding out for a likely letter!!
Are you a recruit? Pioneer? or Something??

Not really. I am just hoping for one. If I don’t, then I don’t. Oh well! Good luck

I’ve discounted myself, as I’m int’l so less likely to get in, let alone get a likely letter… :’)
Good luck @THEbomb with that… hope you get one!!

Another false alarm :’(
“Cornell Engineering: Thank you for applying” ← after their initial thank you for applying and then giving me the ID… lol
I doubt I will get one, but will be awesome if I did :D

I know!!! I hate those emails… I always get dead excited, then it’s like ‘WHERE IS YOUR FINANCIAL AID FORM’

Just terrible! Sneaky universities
