Did anyone who got one apply to one of the dual degree programs? If so, which?

Did anyone else get invited to the Equity & Excellence Scholars Preview? How is this different from the regular Penn Preview days? And are you guys going?

^^ Yeah I did.

I also got a likely letter! and I’m an international who applied for aid!!! wow, this is amazing.

Got a likely letter too!!
Yeah, shelly318 i got invited to the Equity and Excellence Scholars Preview too! Do most people get that who get a likely letter? Definitely going to that.

I got a likely letter too! I was so surprised because my stats sucked. And I also didn’t believed it until I got three more emails, one from finaid, one from a penn student (Joseph Egozi) and one for the different preview days. So a likely means that we basically will be admitted to penn right?

Congratulations to all those who received a likely letter! I heard a rumor that the Wharton school and dual degree programs did not participate in the likely letters. Can any one confirm or disprove that? Thanks!

Hey, did any of you who received a likely letter get a note handwritten on your actual mailed letter?

shelly: Penn is going to do anything to get you excited and keep you excited. They are courting you. Whether it is a jottings at the bottom of your LL to fun emails/mailers/trinkets/TShirts you’ll get. Their goal is one thing: they want Shelly to say YES.

Not that it’s bad to be wanted, not at all. But they want you to feel special b/c they want you. But step back and make the best choice for you. Ultimately, it’s marketing.

Congrats, however!

@Shelly, yes I did, and another guy I talked to did as well. I also just got a book written by the president of Penn in the mail today, so you should be getting that soon as well.

But really, Penn? Why send a book called “The Spirit of Compromise”? To me, that’s very boring… I feel like a t-shirt would get me and others way more excited and have us thinking about Penn a lot more, unless you happen to be a polisci junky who loves that type of literature.

Thank you for the info! Yeah, I also got the book, and thought it wasn’t too exciting but my dad is interested in reading it haha.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but as future students at a top university, you two might want to cultivate a bit more intellectual curiosity about things like, say, how our government and society are run (even if you’re not a “polisci junky”). Just sayin’.

Incidentally, Amy Gutmann has been doing a lot of national TV and other media interviews about that book, and it’s received a great deal of attention. It’s NOT some esoteric textbook, but is actually highly relevant to the current dysfunction in our political system (sequester, fiscal cliff, debt ceiling drama, etc.).

And congratulations on the “likely” letters! :)

@45 percenter Yes, I know, unfortunately my knowledge of modern politics is severely lacking :/. But it’s getting better! I’m actually planning to minor in economics!

^ Sorry, didn’t mean to be obnoxious (at least not TOO much ;)). But you should try to read Amy’s book before lending it to your dad.

And, if you end up accepting Penn’s imminent offer, you can discuss it with her when you get there! :)

I also received a handwritten note and the book.

@ concerned7: I’m not in admissions but what I think Penn is trying to do here is reduce its yeild rate to make itself look better in the college rankings. Because Wharton already has such a high yeild, they need not send out likely letters because most of the students are going to accept thier offer anyways. In the end, it comes down to marketing, which are you going to divert more resouces on? People who may/may not buy your product who could be convinvced or people who are going to buy your product regardless of what you say to them.

I also strongly agree with T26E4’s comment about taking the right choice, sit back and think about what college is really right for you, not the one that simply gives you the most stuff

congrats to all the people who got a likely letter though, I hope to see you all next august!!!

You know I got that likely thing too and this link [Penn Likely Admitted Class of 2017](Homepage | Penn Admissions)
but you know I just feel like the college is essentially “■■■■■■■■ me” lol. Watch I won’t get in that’ll just make it worse if I don’t. About 13 days 17hrs 35 mins to go until my life gets utterly destroyed lol xD. I should really stop staying up till 12:30 on week days >.>

You know with this attitude my “self-fulfilling prophecy” looks bleak thinks positive psychology :D

How Likely will a “likely” person get in lol?

Hmmm… a video Likely Letter. Well toonation, the opening words are this:

“We are delighted to inform you that you have been selected as a Likely Admitted Student to the University of Pennsylvania. This means that with your continued academic success and good-standing in secondary school, we intend to officially admit you to the Class of 2017 on March 28, 2013.”

Basically don’t flunk out, commit a felony or have submitted fraudulent app materials and you’re in. Congrats. If you’re unsure, read this
