Likely letters

Does anyone know whether Barnard issues likely letters? Has anyone received one?

No, as far as I know, they do not.

I'm kind of glad. Because then if other people got them I would be in AGONY wanting to know, you know?

I think that's just a Wellesley thing... I still don't know how I feel about receiving the letter...

I thought they did send out likely letters???

Barnard College in New York City says it is "strongly considering" sending out "likely" letters either this year or the next. Barnard would join Dartmouth, Smith, Clark and many other colleges that also rely on some version of the early letter.

Barnard thought about it in 2003, but never went through with it.

Interesting!

Let us know if anyone gets one...

I do not know how I would feel about this if my d was going through the process right now. Obviously, we would love it if she received one but HATE it if she did not....

Yes, I am really conflicted about the whole thing, too. At Wellesley one has the option to apply Early Evaluation (due 1/1, means student will get the evaluative letter) or RD. I applied EE; worst that happens is I don't open the envelope. Not having been admitted to the school to which I applied ED, I know the pain of a singular rejection (or semblance of one). Atleast if one waits until April when all of her letters have arrived, she'll likely have some acceptances and some rejections...much better than a single rejection.

You would have to have a lot of will power to not open that envelope. I would like likely letters, because the worst that could happen is I don't get one. And they wouldn't send them to everyone they admit, right? So there would still be some hope if you don't get one, and if you did get one you could relax a little.

I would dance for joy to receive one - it would take some of the pressure off! In Australia we have finished year 12 before Christmas and so the wait is even more painful because there's no school to keep you occupied, plus I have to watch all my friends go off the college in February - its torture!

Hang in there ozgirl. I hope you have many options on your plate, but don't give up on Barnard. I remember going to the mailbox on a Sat. and finding D's big envelope. It was at the beginning of Spring and the first day I saw flowers blooming.

Wait, so only some people get LLs?

as far as we know, no one gets likely letters. i think mythmom was referring to her D's official acceptance.

Sorry for confusion. Yes, I was. No likely letter.
