Likely -> Rejected?

Hiya!

As in the title, how possible is it that a likely letter would end up in a rejection? Would poor subject test scores sent after the likely letter was received negatively impact the applicant?

Thanks!

I’m not a student at ND, as you know, but I would say it’s very unlikely to receive a denial after getting the likely letter. I would guess the only way to get a denial is if your Mid Year report was horrendous. Other than that, I’d imagine you are fine. By this point, they know the kind of student you are, and I HIGHLY doubt that bad subject test scores would change their decision.

Out of curiosity, why send the test scores after getting the likely letter? Have you sent it yet?

@IvyHopeful98 I took the January SAT Subject Tests and selected ND as one of my 4 free score report choices. Therefore, they sent right after score reports were released.

It is unlikely that sending poor subject test scores would change a college’s decision if they have sent you a “likely letter.” I don’t know the statistics for Notre Dame but only a small percentage of students would receive a likely letter to begin with and it means you are at the top of the applicant pool overall which would mean you have solid ACT or SAT and solid high school academics. Congratulations !

I haven’t gotten a ‘likely letter’ yet, but I want to stay optimistic. Are they sent out sporadically as the admissions office processes applications, or are they all sent out at once?

@IvyHopeful98 Does Notre Dame require a mid year report? I didn’t read anything about it, and I just checked the ND website - nothing I can find about sending mid year reports. If I didn’t send it, that would be terrible :confused:

@wneely16 I believe most schools require Mid Year Reports, and all the competitive schools. You should call them.

@XAtlas I just checked my Common App, and it says that my Mid Year Report has been submitted. I guess my guidance counselor took care of it without letting me know.
