Likes and dislikes of UCBerkeley

Why did you choose the school? Are you happy with your decision? What do you like about the school? What do you not like about the school?

*Trying to decide between schools (All advice appreciated. Thanks :)

not the funnest school to be premed

other than that, fantastic. youll meet a very diverse number of people here and experience college the way it was meant to be. (minus parties)

imo

too many transfers.
some or most are very unqualified.

budget cut and admitting more transfers
Not so happy about all the confusion/waitlists/sitting on the damn floor when i am enrolled.
If these factors persist, i think i will hate this school even more.

On CC there seems to be a lot of dislike for Cal. Not sure why? Can a student talk more about it please!!

We’re on CC, prob. because we have nothing better to…and then we complain a bit about why. A grumpier set of the population.

Nobody’s answering the first question. Well. None of the other schools I got into felt right. And the myriad of choices this place offers. Also that it felt familiar to me, I’ve been going to summer classes here for a while.

I dislike lectures, and how crowded the ones I’m in this semester are. Also the general dissing attitude towards required classes. And how empty the campus is on weekends sometimes.

Are we on this topic again? Just randomly select click a post and you’ll see what’s wrong with this place.

me thinks there are too many slackers and stupid people. makes you wonder how they even got in, it really does surprise me. when I visited Harvard, it really struck me how not insecure and down to earth everyone was. you could tell right off the bat that everyone was intelligent and comfortable where they were. here not so much. honestly I feel like I’m among idiots sometimes…

^^ ditto minus the Harvard part

lol obviously, there’s a clear bias involved when you say harvard kids are all down to earth. i am sure berkeley kids are too, but it’s just that there are too many people, and not all are…very suitable. IDK, too many people here

No, slackers you can definitely handle. Almost everyone slacks off from time to time unless you go to UoC where fun goes to die. lol Some kids here are just plain stupid though. My roommate asked me the other day how to spelling winning and problem.
And it’s such a common excuse for people here to say that all our lives are spent on CC. I mean I don’t know about you, but I just check here every time I’m on the computer, which is usually only at night time because where else would I go on a weekday?

What I do think about some of the happiest people here though is this: many of the people I’ve met at parties and in classes tell me they never did this and that. My other roommate, for example, is completely satisfied with Berkeley. I don’t talk to him much, but I know he’s definitely been protected by his parents from a lot of stuff. I mean hell his mom sends him boxes of food and snacks every month and will come up from SoCal every other month or so (or send another relative) to stop by and check up on him. And then there’s the drinking friend, who never even had a sip of alcohol in high school, who joined a sorority and now she’s just off the chain near every weekend. Are these accurate representations of all the happy people? Hell no. But I do believe that these types of people do make up a sizable amount of the “happy” kids at Berkeley.
So should you come to this school? Who knows. All I can say is that sometimes there is too much freedom and not enough action by the staff for the money we pay to attend. I realize there’s this notion of “you’ve got to pursue **** on your own”; maybe so, but a little help from the other side would be greatly appreciated, especially since they’re the ones taking our money.

What kind of action out of curiosity?

I personally like being left alone with terrific resources, and find it a good reason to pay money to attend a school, perhaps more so than the attention given by staff. Though I’ve not thought too much about what more I’d want, given I’m happy with what I’ve been given to say the least.

Intelligence might be part of the reason, but the other part would be that maybe aunts, uncles, and the masses told some Harvard students how wonderful they are for going to school there. :)

If you feel you’re among idiots here, you’re not going to the right places. Go talk to a fields medalist and he’ll give you the thrashing you came here for :D

I feel like it gets better though. Just don’t always think of yourself as a victim. If you learn from a mistake or lesson, then you receive something out of that experience. Nothing is then wasted, don’t blindly let things happen to you over and over again. Set your priorities straight, it makes things so much easier.

the classes can be difficult at times, but some students I just wonder if it’s their work ethic or they are just plain oblivious about things. It’s not like I looked at their test scores or grades but you can just sense things about people like when how some homeless are not right in the head.

I think the experience of Cal was good. It was a real world fend for yourself scenario which was enlightening and interesting but I wouldn’t do it over again. You just never feel completely comfortable or relaxed here, it just feels like there is acid in the air or something. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone somewhere else.

Ignore the cynics. They’re just blowing smoke out of their asses.

Basically if you want to have a good experience at Cal, you can. If you come in with a bad attitude (ex. ill just study all day because i already have friends and dont need to meet new people!~~~ ^_^) then you’re going to crash and burn my friend.

Yeah, there are some not so intelligent people here but whatever, there’s dumb people at every college - even harvard…

Most people are smart, outgoing and friendly. If you meet someone who doesn’t fit that criteria, then tell them to go f off. At least that’s what I do.

How friendly XD

but i agree. it’s all how much you make of it.

@Batman17: Was that the roommate that smells?

Btw, does anyone know how to make a quote tag that shows the poster of the quote?

what do you mean? :D

you put an equals sign next to the opening of the quote inside the bracket:

[quote=Liquidus]
and end with the normal [ /quote ]
