Lincoln Center Campus?

I’m super excited to have been selected into Fordham Lincoln Center for the fall of 2016! I do have some questions and would love to hear from people who know about the lincoln center campus!

  1. My favorite subjects and classes I know I will be taking revolve around Biology, psychology, and studio arts. They have the major I'm most interested in (Neuroscience) at the LC campus; however, I've heard the LC campus is very centered on performing arts. Will I be able to take a good classes I'm interested in?
  2. How are the neuroscience and psych programs at LC? Is commuting to Rose Hill possible and easy if I need to in order to take classes required for my major.
  3. I'm very focused on academics, but I do enjoy my social life like most people. What is the party scene like at LC? Are there a lot of social events?
  4. This may be a silly question, but how is the food. I am a vegan, and that lifestyle is very important to me. Though this is obviously not a determining factor, it would be nice to not each rice for every meal like many schools with "vegan options" give you.
  5. What are the dorms like? Are there single available? I would totally be able to do a roommate and would love one but I am a super morning person (5 AM haha) and don't want to annoy other people. Are there also kitchens available for students to use? I love to cook and know being vegan at college may end up being me making a lot of my own food and utilizing resources.

Thank you! Any help is appreciated

From what I can see, neuroscience is not a possible major at the LC campus. Neither is biology. While there are science courses are available at LC, RH is generally considered to have more of the hard sciences. Psychology is available as a major at LC. http://www.fordham.edu/info/21668/majors_and_minors

If you are doing science, your life will be easier at RH. Even if they had those majors at LC (I think they do for some), you will take a ton of classes at RH because LC doesn’t have many labs.

People here are normal and also like going out with friends. No crazy dorm parties, just get togethers. Most people do their partying/socializing somewhere in Manhattan.

You probably won’t be able to get a single dorm freshman year but after that you can if you find two other people to get a single apartment with. It’s expensive though.

Food is mediocre to bad. I mean they have stuff for vegans, that’s no problem. The problem is that LC cafeteria is catered towards commuters and is very expensive for not much good food… you’ll be forced into it freshman year though.

You will need to visit both campuses to see what you like. Lincoln Center offers “Natural Science” and Rose Hill has “Biological Science”. My daughter had a friend at LC who took Bio at LC and loved it and said the facilities are much nice there than at RH.

Also, Neuroscience is a major you need to apply to. There are nine foundation courses you need to take and three of them must be completed at the time of application. You also must have a 3.0 GPA in the sciences. You also can not double major in Neuro along with Bio and Psychology since most of the classes overlap. My daughter is a Psych major and after taking one class that delved into the workings of the brain, boy was she interested in Neuroscience. But she didn’t have the 3.0 in sciences (she had a 4.0 in the other foundation courses required) she wasn’t accepted into the program. The Psychology department is excellent. My daughter is RH though, but took one class at LC over the summer (one of those foundation courses) and she found the facilities to be very nice.

The food is horrible. To add insult to injury you HAVE to purchase the meal plan. And LC is worse than RH. There is a great deli across the street from campus that has vegetarian options.

As for the dorms, I only know McMahon Hall since that is where my daughter lived during her summer session. These are apartment style living with kitchens. As for McKeon Hall, that is the new freshman dorm and I don’t believe these are set up like apartments, but are typical dorms, which is probably why a meal plan is required. From what I understand, these are really nice and have great views of Manhattan. As for the food, Fordham just announced they are looking at new options and sent out RFP’s (Request for Proposals) regarding food services and I believe the contract ends on June 30th of this year (yay!).

Please visit both campuses and/or contact the Biology department at LC and ask what exactly the differences are and see which science suits your interest.

.

At LC, after your freshman year, you move into McMahon where it’s apartment style, and you have a full (though small) kitchen. Plus, there are a million places to eat off campus, and lots of places that deliver.
