Two questions:

I recently took Linear Algebra and Differential Equations at a state university, but earned a B in the class :(

Should I even bother listing it on my app because of the somewhat "bad" grade I received?

If I do list it, where should I list it?

Thanks.

I’d be interested in this, too. My high school offers the 2 classes for eligible seniors, and I’ll be taking it for general enrichment since there’s no AP class for that yet. Can I mention this anywhere on the app?

doesn’t the course automatically go on your transcript? I know my school only lets you take such courses at college as dual credit or something…

Nope, it doesn’t go on my transcript nor does it effect my GPA. my school transcript only lists me as TAKING the course. it is a 4-credit course, and I DID earn credit, but i didn’t earn the grade I wanted. also, i’ll be applying to a lot of top-notch colleges, so i just wanted to know if listing it would help/hurt my application, and by how much?

listen to me. don’t list them.

^ uhhhh, reasoning?

have u been in a similar situation/ had experience with this case?

thanks

I think the fact that you took linear algebra as a high schooler when even math majors probably don’t take it until sophomore year of college is impressive. But that’s just me.
And a B isn’t a bad grade. It’s “above average”. That might not sound impressive, but consider that you’re “above average” as a high schooler in a level of math most people don’t even see.

^thanks neutrino

^^adcomb is a ■■■■■ so ignore him

the situation I’m in is that my school is super uncompetitive and inflates grades by a ton. I have a 4.0. as do about 40 other of my classmates…-____-

i’m worried that admission officers will see that i don’t do as well at the real, college level because I earned a B, not an A. I’m not trying to make excuses, but this was my first college course and the class was really challenging.
this said, i actually have a 3rd option. to list the course, but not the grade i received, simply stating that I earned the 4-credits… i’m worried that doing this will arouse suspicion tho…

has anyone in my situation (B in university math class) dealt with this before? thanks.

Hmmm…It IS impressive that you took it, but is it just a B? Or a B+? If its a B+, then definitely list it. But if your transcript already shows that you TOOK the class but not what grade, it probably would be worth leaving it as is. Sorry about your B I havent had a similar situation, but I want to take either multivariable calculus or differential equations next year at my local college, but I’ve heard its super hard there because the teachers stink.

my school transcript only shows me as taking it.

I would just list that the classes and that you got credit, but not the actual grade.

I took college classes during high school and I sort of had an opposite problem…it showed up on my transcript as the most generic title ever and didn’t even recognize as it as a college class. It’s like labeling what you took “MATH” and thinking the colleges would understand it. At my request, my council wrote a short note to accompany my transcript that elaborated more on the classes.

Point is, that since you didn’t take it at your school, colleges might just think that the grade doesn’t show because it’s not your high schoool’s grade but the college’s.

Also, look at what the school’s policy. Some schools require that kind of stuff to be listed.
