Linguistics at Emory

I really want to double major in cognitive science and linguistics (or NBB and linguistics if I were to go to Emory), and I was wondering how strong the linguistics department was here. I am mostly interested in semantics, psycho- and socio-linguistics.

thanks!

anyone???

Hi!

I am a current psychology & linguistics joint major in the college. I personally love the department, all of the professors are extremely knowledgeable and approachable and they really care about you and your education. Now as a joint major the majority of my classes are focused on the intersection between linguistics and psychology, so language acquisition pretty much. However I have been through the basic linguistics classes and I’m even in a syntax class right now which I will admit was not thrilled about at first but I really have come to love the class just because of my professor. (Any chance to take a class with Dr. Pak or Dr. Tamasi, do it!) All departments at Emory are strong and I’m not sure exactly what you mean by strong, but they are a well organized, helpful, and again like I said knowledgeable department. I would strongly suggest even shooting them an email and asking about their programs yourself!
