Even though the admissions office said the financial aid link has no significance, I don’t 100% believe it. Maybe 80% but I still am uneasy. Like how would it just randomly pop up on a few accounts? Plus when you call the admissions office, they NEVER tell the truth. A friend called them today when decisions would be available and they said the first week of April. But two hours later they emailed, saying decisions would be emailed this Friday.

^ x2000

Let me offer some optimism? My friend… who knows technology said this…

“cause it’s probably coded in CSS and there could be a parsing error in the different permissions set”

He said that might have caused the mishap…

Even if it does mean something (which is unlikely) don’t lose hope! They may just be adding the links slowly. I got one suddenly today, and I definitely didn’t have it yesterday. So, its completely possible you’ll get it later–we still have til Friday for decisions!

Again though, I have like zero chance of getting in, and I still have the link. This makes me believe that its just a random glitch in the system.

It’ll be interesting to see if people with the link got in…

I just thought of something else… sorry to keep double-posting. Even if the links DO mean something, maybe it’s an alphabetical/processing thing? Sigh. Just trying to look for reasons. -_-

I agree with light. Admission Officers probably wouldn’t ever say that the link meant anything.

Wait, I thought the person who called said they talked to financial aid… NOT someone from admissions?

I just checked and indeed the person did! But my point still stands.

Guys, are you talking about this?

Yes meghna. Can you see what awards you got? Most internationals here seem to be getting a “fin aid app incomplete” message.

Nop, no awards here. Just a list of my documents and a message saying all my documents have been received.

If there are no awards shown even when it lists all documents as complete, I think the link doesn’t mean anything after all.

I think it just means that they are processing all the applications and updating the info slowly.

“If you have applied for financial aid, you should check your My Amherst page regularly for notices from the Office of Financial Aid regarding your financial aid application. If you receive a letter of admission from the college, you will want to review the Programs for Admitted Students Web page to learn about upcoming events.”

^ So we can assume that the people who have the link are admitted?

No, I think they are just updating whether they have have your fin aid info right now(regardless of whether you get accepted or not, they dont particularly care) Their deadline was only March 10 for tax returns, so it makes that they are setting up the tracking system right now. A lot of other schools also have a section where you can check whether your fin. aid info has been received or not.

In the next week or so I think everyone will have that fin-aid link.

Oh, ok. Weird. I turned in all my documents… hopefully you’re right!

Kiterunner you didn’t get the financial aid link right? Does your last name begin with a letter that starts at the end of the alphabet? Mine does. Just wondering.

@light - no financial aid link here, but I have all of my documents in. And my last name starts with M, so it’s not dead last, but it’s further down. If the link DOES mean something, I hope for our sake that we don’t have one because we’re further down the alphabet! :)

Mine starts with “R”, but assuming that meghnasridhar is using her realname as a cc account, then her link should have come up after mine as her last name starts with “S”. Regardless, I think we may be over analyzing. There could be a lot of other factors, including how they track us, our username(mine starts with Z), location, date we submitted app etc.

I just keep getting this horrible sinking feeling in my stomach that it’s bad. But I’ve talked to a few friends and my parents and they all tell me that it’s probably an error, and I shouldn’t worry about it.

If the link is legit, and it’s based on application submission, I would be DEAD last. Procrastination! :)
