Link to View Financial Aid Award on MyAmherst

Sometimes the internet is more harmful than helpful, I think! A few weeks ago, I read on CC about one school that had already sent out letters, and my son hadn’t gotten anything. Something finally came in the mail, postmarked 5 days earlier! I guess stuff takes a long time to get to Maine. If I hadn’t been lurking on that school’s board, I would have avoided a lot of nervousness.

Hey have you called the office miss_murd3r?

any update? haha i love how everyone who doesnt have the link is sorta panicking (including me) :(

ok, so I don’t see the ‘view my financial aid award’ on the myamherst page either, but I just called their financial aid office and they said the following:

there have been glitches and they are still working on getting all the financial aid stuff up and running.

they don’t get a list of ‘admitted students’ until early april, so having any sort of tab dealing with a financial aid award on the myamherst page shouldn’t be construed as an admissions decision of any kind.

That tab, if it is even available, which the lady sounded a little doubtful about, should not give any more information on your financial aid award or lack thereof.

So basically for those of us who have applied and do not see the tab, and for those that have seen the tab and gotten their hopes up, we just have to wait!! The official decisions come out online this Friday, and I think speculating on their decision at this point is a little ineffective and will just drive us crazy!!

Hopefully this helps. :)

^ i love you

thanks! lol

katchakern, thanks for checking on that! That’s what I meant about the internet being harmful - all that worrying for nothing! Good luck to everyone.

It’s funny that the woman questioned if the tab is available. It is! I didn’t make up that stuff I pasted here, lol.

They emailed everyone:

Dear XXX:

Please note that the Amherst College Office of Admission will be emailing decisions to all first-year applicants with active email addresses late in the day on Friday, March 26.

Sincerely,

The Amherst College Office of Admission

SOOOOO What does “email late in the day” mean?

Katchakern - Good thing you called; I totally forgot! Haha. Good to know that it’s not a big deal.
:)

Light;
I would assume that “late in the day” means after 5:00pm. AKA, when the college office is closed. Haha. Basically, colleges release admissions decisions on Fridays and after 5:00pm so that angry applicants and parents won’t call, causing the college to get bogged down with angry callers.

Ahhhh, college admissions!

Ha, miss_murd3r, I never thought of the reason for the Friday timing! One of my son’s acceptances came at 12:15 am on a Saturday morning!

MaineLonghorn - Yuppp!! Colleges do that! I remember reading it on another board and I asked my college counselor about it today. It makes sense to do that because some colleges deny a lot of kids, so they don’t want to be swamped with phone calls.

And I guess the late in the day thing works along with the fact that acceptances won’t be emailed all at once. Some of us might find out at 10pm!

katchakern, will you have my babies?

anaplicant, you see, i already have 9 (beating octamom is my goal in life) so i’m a little busy at the moment. lol

^ hahahhahaha. Appreciate the call. I’m MUCH more chillaxed now.

We’ll see on Friday!!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Miss_Murd3r, Amherst only sends e-mails to internationals, you will get yours snail mail.

^Not this year! Amherst emailed all applicants saying decisions would be emailed on 3/26

Wow, didn’t know that, thanks! I was at a function recently where President Marx was making jokes about Amherst catching up with technology as they will be soon registering for classes online instead of pencil and paper! I guess email notification is a good start.

Yup GA2012MOM - the 'herst is sending out emails.

I guess the people that get accepted/waitlisted will get snail mailed but the rejects will just have the letters online. :(

How depressing… Haha. I guess it makes sense; less paper spent and all. Especially since they’ve ditched paper financial award letters.

Hey, Amherst was always “Green,” even if they didn’t mean too. They sent their acceptances in a one paged thin envelope instead of a huge packet! :)

^ Did they really?! I bet that was pretty nerve-wracking. You wouldn’t know if you got accepted/WL’d/rejected based on the size of the envelope!
