Some of my friends have them, but I feel like it's a double-edged sword since a lot of kids don't really have notable employment experience while in high school. What are your thoughts? When is it appropriate to have a LinkedIn as a high school student?

Creating a LinkedIn is very stupid when in high school!! This is not to list that you are in five clubs or have volunteered at twenty places…LinkedIn is for professionals to show that they have worked here or there (and got paid) and to list their degrees (high school doesn’t count…that is mandated).

No, it is not necessary.

It’s silly, and for a high school student, it looks obnoxious; BioAnthroPsych is right. Leave networking to the business professionals.

Good to know I’m not the only one that thought so!

Its for professionals. High schoolers have no business being on the site.

No reason those groups have to be mutually exclusive. Many high schoolers work at internships or have companies.

I personally use LinkedIn and think it’s a great tool for even high schoolers to have. You can start connecting with people today for possible employment in the future. I’ve found quite a few jobs through LinkedIn.

I see your point “kameronsmith”. I think it is OK for high school students as long as they do not “inflate” their experience. For instance, a one-week internship is not sufficient to be listed as work experience. You also should not list a college that you have taken 1 class at.
