• ACT: 31.
• SAT II: Math I 660, Lit 620, US History 660.

• Work Experience: work as a theater technician in my school’s theater.
• Volunteer/Community service: Habitat for Humanity, volunteering at a local food pantry. Other random stuff.
• Essays: I thought they were pretty good. Writing is my strong point. For famous New Yorker I wrote about spending a day with Heath Ledger. My Tisch supplements were solid too.
• Teacher Recommendation: AWESOME. The teachers I asked all know me really well.
• Counselor Rec: Good, she knows me pretty well too.
• Interview: None.
Other
• Applied for Financial Aid?: YES.
• Intended Major: Cinema Studies (Tisch/CLAS).
• State: Chicago, Illinois!
• School Type: pretty large public, ~2200 people.
• Ethnicity: Caucasian.
• Gender: Female.
• Income Bracket: my mom makes about ~$30k and my dad doesn’t support us.
• Hooks: Ukrainian immigrant, multilingual, low income, involvement in theatre… not much.
Reflection
• Strengths: test scores, rec letters, essays, ECs.
• Weaknesses: GPA. I’m not a bad student… I take all Honors and AP classes, I just tend to get B+s in them. Seriously, I always end up with an 88 or 89. So borderline. But a B is a B, you know?
• Why you think you were accepted: involvement in the arts and passion for film shows in essays.
General Comments: Wow, this came as a COMPLETE SHOCK. I got the “make travel plans” email. It doesn’t say whether I’m LSP’d or anything, which I expect to be due to my low GPA. Anyway, I’m really glad this came when it did because I’m currently DYING waiting to hear back from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. I don’t know if I’ll be able to go to NYU because their financial aid kind of sucks and, as you can tell, I really need a lot of it.

Work Experience: Ice Hockey Referee, Ice Hockey Scorekeeper
Volunteer/Community service: Tour Guide, Tutor, Global Partner, Ice Hockey Tournaments, Blood Drives, etc.
Essays: My college counsellor said my big essay was beautifully written and very powerful (I was confident about it after hearing that because I had written about six drafts and she didn’t particularly like them).
Teacher Recommendation: I didn’t read them, but I had recs from last year’s math teacher and creative writing teacher. I also had recs from two of my professors from the Summer Scholar Program at the University of Miami (filmmaking)
Interview: N/A

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Film & Television (Tisch)
State: Rhode Island
School Type: small private boarding school
Ethnicity: Did not specify
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: N/A
Hooks: Summer Scholar Program at University of Miami (filmmaking), LGBT
Reflection
Strengths: Essays and recs
Weaknesses: GPA. Most students in my school are extremely competitive and the reason we don’t rank is because there are only about 120 students in each class and GPAs are very close (usually within .1 of each other). My Critical Reading score on the SAT wasn’t that great either
Why you think you were accepted: passion for film, involvement in extra-curriculars, SSP, and essay.
General Comments: I was expecting to be rejected so I didn’t really consider attending before this, but now I am seriously loving the idea of attending. I’m waiting to hear from a couple more schools, but I am also going to need financial aid.

Reflection
• Strengths: class rigor, ACT, volunteer hours, Utah
• Weaknesses: SAT, Work experience
• Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Again the Utah thing, but I think my volunteer work with wildlife defiantly made me unique for a school in NYC.
General Comments: Financial Aid will be a huge factor. I love NYU, but I refuse to take more than 20,000 in loans for four years, I will still have to pay for Grad. School! Best of Luck to everyone still waiting on decisions!
