im hoping to apply to some higher quality schools with the hopes of getting merit aid that isn't assured... but i'm looking for substantial awards, and some that aren't so competitive that there is no way i'd get them. also and i know this is stupid and i'll force myself to do it anyway if i need the money, but i'd prefer scholarships that don't require an interview, because i don't make a good first impression. and most of the competitive schol. i've seen say there is a required interview and quite honestly i don't believe i have any chance of getting one if it depends at all on that. soooo

soooo any known scholarships?!

yeah i figured that. i’ll still attempt to get a scholarship in those cases but bleh. what are they looking for in interviews and such?

^^^

I don’t like those interview weekends. They just seem like ways for schools to get lots of high stats students on campus to “sell” their school, and then they only award a few scholarships. And, often they expect the student to pay for the travel costs.

As for what they’re looking for…they’re looking for someone who is worth the investment…meaning that they’re looking for someone who not only has high stats, but will also graduate and go on to do great things and make their school look good.

Not all of the weekends are the same - some guarantee a good merit scholarship to all attendees. I agree that the ones where you can walk away empty-handed are a cheap shot.

^^

I agree that some guarantee “some” merit to all attendees. I would NOT say that some guarantee enough merit for Spazzy’s need. A half tuition scholarship to a school that costs $55k+ per year isn’t going to help Spazzy. Not to mention that his parents aren’t likely going to pay for his travel costs…they don’t even want to pay $50 for another SAT or ACT - even tho a higher score would likely net a LOT more money.
