List of Top, Prestigious Awards

AMC 12 school winner should be like 4

what happened to national junior science/humanities symposium winners? in most college app prep book things it’s listed right along ISEF as the most prestigious original research competitions (after STS and Siemens, of course). there are only 3 winners in each of 7 categories, and there’s significant scholarship $ involved…
i’d personally call it an 8, if not 9

I don’t see anybody in charge of moving things around, so I’ll move a bunch of math related things (judging from my experience how hard they are):

10 - D1 athlete, IMO/IPHO/ICHO/IBO medals, Intel (top 10), Siemens National Winner/National Finalists, ISEF top 3 Grand Prize, Published in Nature or Science

9 - Siemens Westinghouse (finalists), MOP, Intel Finalist, NFL Nationals winner (speech and debate), RSI

8 - TASP, USPhO/USChO/USABO/USACO national finalist, Siemens Semi-finalists/ISEF(1-4 places), Intel semifinalist, Running your own successful business, AMC Perfect Score, Presidential Scholar, Davidson Fellow, Presidential Scholar of the Arts, Scholastic Art & Writing Portfolio Gold Award

7 - Selective summer programs or competitions, such as SSP, Clark Summer Program, YESS, NIH Research, and MITES. USAMO qualification, ARML Tiebreaker Round / Top Team, Scholastic Art & Writing National Silver or Gold Medal. NFL Nationals qualifier (speech and debate), Congressional Award Gold Medalist, USAMTS Gold Medal, YES Competition (Young Epidemiology Scholarship) Top 4, Science Bowl/Ocean Science Bowl/NAQT winners.

6 - USPhO/USChO/USABO/USACO semifinalist, Science Olympiad National medals, Congressional Award Silver Medalist

5 - National Latin Convention 1st Places Academic Contests, All-Eastern/all-regional music, National History Day winner, AIME qualification, Science Bowl national qualification

3 - All-County music, winning at local/regional science fairs, Eagle Scout, National Merit

2 - Bank of America Awards, most local awards/trophies (art, music, community - although they will say something about your character), Essay Contests, State History Day

1 - National Honor Society, Beta Club, School Departmental Awards, School Honor Roll, Key Club, CSF, Interact Club

0 - Who’s Who, National Honor Roll, National Society of High School Scholars

NPEC? as an international relations-y/essay-writing competition. most of the emphasis is on the research though.

Presidential scholar should be tier 10.

11- Harvard acceptance

21- World Bodybuilding Champion.

How about CURING CANCER?

Seriously, you guys.

Hey guys!! This thread has been sooo helpful, and I have one question.

Where would you rank this: I do the Waksman Student Scholars Program throughout the year (after school, 1-3 days a week) at the Rutgers lab. We have published our findings of parts of the genome of the duckweed plant basically in a database. Where would that go?? Because I DO dedicate a couple hours on a weekday for this. Thanks!!

22- killing Bin Laden

My list, switched and added a few things

I think NFL Nationals qualifier is ranked too highly here. Qualifying tournaments are usually of the same or lesser caliber than most local tournaments.

I have an iPhone app business. I self-taught myself Objective-C (object oriented) programming in 8th grade and have since created over a dozen apps. The top two have a combined total of 3M downloads. My company’s revenue exceeds $1M, I have managed 2 full time employees, and I decided to turn down a six-figure venture round (a $100k+ investment in a new app) to focus more time on school. The apps have been in the top 25 of the app store several times before and have exceeded billion dollar brands like Groupon and Google several times in terms of daily downloads. Where would this rank on the chart? I know owning a successful business is currently at 8, but would this be higher or not?

I could be a DI athlete, but I won’t be playing in college, so that 10 goes to a 0. Yay me!

Can anyone help me out with my post? ^^

wcclirl444, that is very impressive. It is one of those more unique accomplishments and should probably be at the top of the chart.

^ Awesome. I’m kind of counting on this helping me to get into Stanford haha. I have a good ACT too (35) but my GPA sucks (borderline As and Bs sophomore year and mid As junior year)… I do go to a competitive private school though.

This thread is awesome… It deserves a bump

Agreed. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!
