So as you all know it is pretty common knowledge to not bash your current school when applying to transfer and I am currently applying as a spring transfer. So when writing my supplement I listed a few things my school lacks instead of bashing it. One of them is a field of study I wanted to minor in and the other is a fraternity. I was wondering if it would look bad to mention the fraternity on my application or not? It’s sort of a cultural fraternity which was founded at the school I want to transfer to and the college actually has a paragraph on the fraternity on its website talking its diversity (the school is trying to become more diverse so I guess thats there way of saying “Hey look these organizations were diverse”). I’m just not sure if that looks all to appealing to the adcom considering the general image of greek life.
I, personally, would not make the fraternity a main point of why you want to transfer. Try writing about how you like the school’s cultural diversity and unique organizations rather than that specific fraternity.
EDIT: That part only takes 56 words out of my 625sh word essay. I’m just not sure how it will be viewed in to the adcoms but I used that as one of my reasons to explain my desire for a more diverse school (which I thought it would be beneficial for the school also as they are trying to further diversify themselves). I have more reasons to transfer like my current institutions lack of a field of study that I wanted to pursue as a minor (not as a major but I was still bummed out about it). And then I just don’t enjoy my time here at my current school but I didn’t mention that lol and more stuff.
If the fraternity is a minor supporting example then I think you should be okay (I’m not 100% because regardless greek life does have a certain image. You can make a better decision than I can knowing the full details regarding the fraternity). I would advise that you word that you “don’t enjoy your time at your current school” wisely, as it can be easily misinterpreted depending on the evidence you use to support the claim.
