This is stupid because its hard to rank schools but from what i’ve heard here are rankings. I included commentary in parentheses

PA (home state)

1) Swarthmore (great small school, one of the best)
2) UPenn (ivy of course its good)
3) Haverford (another top LAC)
4) Lehigh (very good school, sometimes underrated)
5) Carnegie Mellon (a top engineering school like Lehigh)
6) Bucknell (good well-rounded school, PA is a great state)
7) Bryn Mawr (each of the seven sisters is good)
8) Lafayette (pretty good, but not as good as Bucknell)
9) Franklin and Marshall (pretty good school, often unheard of)

MA

1) Amherst (considered by some as the best college in the world)
2) Williams ( see above)
3) Harvard ( we’re talking undergrad here, and that’s below Williams and Amherst)
4) MIT (its not as well rounded as the above schools, why I ranked it below)
5) Tufts (a great school, and an up and comer)
6) Wellsley (perhaps the best of the seven sisters)
7) BC (a good school)
8) Smith (perhaps the second best of the seven sisters)
9) Holy Cross (underrated because its Catholic)
10) Brandeis (pretty good school)

CT

1) Yale (nuff said)
2) Wesleyan (a top LAC, very far to the left)

4) Conn College (slightly below Trinity, but a good LAC)
5) UConn (has a great honors program)
6) Fairfield University (decent school)

I think all the schools in Texas are super different, and it really depends what prospective students look for. Rice is always ranked very high and it’s top-notch. I just took a class this summer at SMU though, and a student from Rice was taking it as well, and she decided to transfer to SMU for the undergraduate business experience this fall. UT and A&M are huge rivals because they are large public schools, but UT’s academics and rankings are said to be better than A&M. A&M is less selective. While UT outranks SMU in several categories, its not uncommon to find students argue which school is better. SMU is private and has more prestige and UT’s academics are very reputable.
Baylor is a great school for those who want religion in their curriculum. It’s ranking is a bit lower than the others.

You do realize that UT’s academic departments and programs are #1 in Texas in just about every field, right? The NRC rankings in the early 90s showed this, as do more current rankings today. From the liberal arts, sciences, engineering, professional schools to quality of faculty and resources… NO other school in Texas comes close to this level of academic breadth and depth. Undergrad selectivity shouldn’t be projected to something bigger than it is. UT is not the most selective undergrad university in Texas, but it is by far the strongest overall university.

1) UPenn - Wow!
2) Lehigh - Gorgeous campus and great Greek scene
3) Bucknell - Beautiful campus, great social scene
4) Swarthmore
5) Carnegie Mellon
6) Bryn Mawr
7) Lafayette
8) Franklin and Marshall
9) Haverford
10) Penn State

And you do realize that Rice is ranked far above UT in many categories according to many University ranking websites as well? Including the top 100 University list by USNWR…

UT is outstanding and definitely has impressive academics, but for the most part, your opinion is just like everybody else’s. It’s still just your opinion. You seem to be a little bias in your reply to my message anyways. A bit defensive of your school, perhaps?

I just tried to give some information I have seen from experience, along with general ranking statistics. Instead of claiming “one school is better than the other,” since that is subjective, I shared my two sense. I have lived in Texas my whole life and I’m a college student who has done tons of research on the universities here. Not everyone fully relies on one organization’s ranking. A college education is much more than your school being a few spots above another according to some website. You do, also, realize that rankings can really differentiate. So to say that rankings (in general), in every category, rank UT #1 in Texas, seems a bit of an over exaggeration.

P.S - to bring up rankings from the early 90s is useless. Some schools’ “rankings” have skyrocketed in the past 15/20 years. That’s old news.

You’re one of those … You speak for everyone else. Well, I guarantee thats not true. I’m from Houston … and I have several close friends who came to SMU instead of UT. And they were in top 10% of their class. It depends on the student.

1-Florida State University
2-University of Miami
3-New College of Florida
4-University of Florida
5-Rollins
6-University of South Florida
7-Nova Southeastern University
8-University of Central Florida
9-Florida International University
10-Florida Atlantic University

FLA_Living, what industry are you in? Each school has its own niche but I still feel like UF is #1 for Florida and I see you have it listed at #4.
