List the top 10 schools in each state!

"You guys really give LAC's too much credit."

LAC's don't get ENOUGH credit in the general population for the superior undergraduate education that they provide. I don't think the credit given to them in this thread is even enough.

Just because LACs are not talked about does not mean they are underrated. It would actually be unusual for them to be talked a lot based on their population in comparison with schools that have 10k+ ugrads.

LACs are like a high school above high school that prepare most kids for higher education (law/med/grad).

It is impossible to compare LACs and National Universities but even so I don't see how people can put Swarth above Upenn or Haverford above CMU. Comp Sci is making a comeback and engineering/business have never been stronger as seen with the T25 increases of JHU/CMU/Cornell at 23%/20%/15% increases respectively.

At least split up the LACs/Nationals since they really can't be compared in today's age.

PS: I hope whoever put Upenn 5th or 6th was joking

I think Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster are way better academically than a lot of the schools that you listed. The public machines of mediocrity are simply not comparable. I mean who on earth would compare OWU and Wooster against Xavier and University of Dayton? Here is my list:

Oberlin

Kenyon

Case Western

Ohio Wesleyan

3. Case Western
4. Ohio Wesleyan
5. Denison
6. The College of Wooster
7. The Ohio State University
8. Miami University

10. University of Dayton

... I'm with you, accept I'd move Miami up, at the very least flip it w/ OSU (and probably to the 4 spot behind only privates: Oberlin, Kenyon and Case, in the order you have them). Miami is a considerably better undergrad school than OSU, gets overall better students and, despite OSU's admirable improvement in the last decade or so as an academic school (OSU implemented its first ever selective admissions program only in 1987, after getting Ohio's open admissions [to OSU] law repealed -- and overall, more attn is being given to quality undergrad programs), Miami still has the best academic rep of Ohio public institutions by a long shot.

Maxiumus - good with splitting research universities, lac's, etc. Allows for better comparisons.

"Massachusetts:
1. Harvard
2. MIT
3. Williams
4. Amherst
5. Wellesley
-small ones like babson, bentely, brandies,
-big ones like BC, BU"

I agree with your list completely laxgirl!

^ Forgot Tufts... :|

lol :) (10char.)

Virginia:

UVa
W&L
W&M
JMU
ODU

"^^^ Lemme guess? UCincy should be #1 right? Gimme a break."

no. I said that you must not live in ohio, implying that somebody who lived in ohio would rank them differently, not that someone from cincinnati would rank them differently. Most people in ohio think that miami is clearly the best public and most are pretty unfamiliar with the private liberal arts colleges that you named. That was my point.

and btw, I don't go to the university of cincinnati. I am in high school in the cincinnati area, though.

I live in both...
Georgia:
1. Emory
2. Georgia Tech
3. University of Georgia (UGA)
4. Georgia State
5. Georgia Southern
...that's about it
The Savannah College of Art and Design is good too...

Tennessee:
1. Vanderbilt
2. Rhodes College
3. Sewanee: University of the South
4. University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK)
5. University of Memphis
6. UT-Chattanooga
...about it...

Their both decent states, but thet're no Massachusetts.

1) Naval Academy
2) Hopkins
3) College Park
4) Loyola (MICA for art)
5) UMBC
