Literature Discussion

yeah everyone thought it was hard as hell

1/2 right = 700...that would be so awesome. I would be so very very happy...

pretty much all poetry is a waste of paper...why cant people just write down plain what they want to frickin say

GinPA...I hope you are kidding. poetry is art. good poetry is poignant and emotionally powerful - it speaks in a manner far stronger than anything said point-blank. It is rather pitiable that you don't see that.

i would rather read it instead of answering questions on it and bombing it lol

I was kidding...but remember that not all people like the same kind of literature, and poetry usually kills me on tests. And I too would rather read it then answer questions about its stupid meanings

And FYI, 30/60 is actually a 570, if you didnt omit any, haha.

Overall the curve is pretty nice. 56+ for an 800, 45 for a 700

sorry... I can't tell sarcasm over the internet. I am glad you were kidding though. People don't have to like poetry, but that doesn't mean that it is a waste of time/paper.
hmmm, that is a pretty nice curve... crosses fingers and holds breath

ida u have aim?

yeah...
idacmayer

overall i thought it was a straightforward test. i took AP Lit this year so that helped a little. I left one blank and guessed on 2 others, so unless I read questions incorrectly, i'm hoping for a good score

hey atra u have AIM?

at first glance, most of the poems were Greek to me, but the questions actually elucidated the meanings really well. if there were free response questions which asked "what did this poem mean?" i would do horribly but the questions themselves clue you in big time. thus, i feel like i had a good enough grip on the pieces to do well. for the "stitch" poem, the last question asked what the poem said about something...i put the answer that stated "...is blown into our path..." and basically said we had no control over our lives...

It's a politician, I'm 100% sure. It said he would do anything to keep his seat in Yorkshire, and the whole point of the damn thing was that he was a greasy asskissing politician who was totally PC and didn't want to offend anyone.

I said meloncholy and bitter irony.

For patronising, did anyone say "buys regularly"?

For the one about the old woman, the flower, and her lost lover (or w/e?) what did she mean when she said it was the perfect kind of flower (or something in that sence). I said because it was a hybrid because i really didnt think the others were right.

something liek the ideal pattern and wat did that mean

what does she mean by ideal pattern: i said perfect type, the other options were hybrid...and a few others...

Perfect type.

patronises was definetely not buys regularly. I think it was only gave support some of the time.

What did you put for the image most conveyed in that poem about sleep? I said prison but I dont know...and what did you put "poppy" meant? I said garden. Lol. probably wrong.

The imagery was of death. That one was easy. The poppy one was hard, but I chose "narcotic", since it used the word "lulling" to describe an effect of it, and "bouquet" didn't really work for that, and the other answers were worse...

Death? Oh crap.

This test is killing me.

What did you put for the one about the woman losing her husband, which one did not increase the intimacy? I said characterizing her as a ancient hero or something.
