As a member of the incoming freshman class at Northwestern, I was wondering if any former or current students would share little known facts, cool tidbits, good-to-know locations, etc.

Have you visited Evanston/Chicago before? This is going to sound lame considering I don’t even go to this school, but my grandparents live in Evanston and I have visited/explored the city and campus many times such that I could probably tell you more about it if you haven’t been there yet.

Go to the website for PBS, and look up Check Please. They do a weekly show that features 3 people going to and then discussing Chi area restaurants. You can select for other cities - use Evanston - and pick out a place for your parent’s to take you, or just visit when you are there. We like the Dixie Kitchen and the Celtic Knot.

They like the color purple.

When you’re on campus sometime, go to the Theatre and Interpretation Center lobby, and look at the large plaques that list donors and special seat holders. You’ll recognize many of the names on these lists.

Here’s a partial list of notable NU alumni…

You’ll have many classmates who are the children of famous people, but if you’re like D it will take a long time to realize it because no one on campus notices.

You will also have many classmates who will be famous in the future, and you may be among them. ;-D

Edzo’s burgers! Awesome shakes, burgers and fries joint in downtown Evanston. Also unicorn cafe is just all around amazing

Edzo’s is credited. Bat17 is even more credited (not for burgers but in general).

Beast23-- Be careful in Tech. People have become lost in the basement.
It’s probably not a safe spot for a freshman to go. If you wander into Tech,
best to have a friend or two (or 3, 4) with you.

Just my .02

ps. A young one or two never came back, as the story goes!

If you’re ever up North and hungry, you should go to the Einstein’s Bagels inside of Pancoe. Great place to study at while eating.

Deering Library
