Northwestern is one of the colleges that interests me greatly in the future.

Chicago is fairly close. How often do you guys go into the city and how is it?

How is the campus? How is the library? Is the campus nice looking?/gorgeous?
How are the dorms?
Say, if you just want to get a bite to eat are there restaurants nearby the campus at late hours?

I was going 3-4 times a week right before school started. Now I tend to go maybe once every 2 weeks or so, but I’m a PhD student and my typical schedule is a lot more constraining than an undergrad’s. Chicago is great. I’m a big foodie and wine lover, so having one of the three great epicurean cities at your doorstep is a nice luxury.

The campus is beautiful. Period. Dorms? No clue – did my undergrad in California.

Most of the restaurants nearby close between 8p-10p. There are some places I go to that are open pretty late (The Cellar until midnight; BAT 17 until 2am; and Chicken Shack until 1am). Burger King is also open 24 hours nearby if that’s your thing.

D is a freshman NU Theatre major and several of her class assignments involve going in to Chicago to see shows, so she’s gone several times in her first month.

I don’t know about late night restaurants, but I know her new A Cappella group kidnapped their new recruits and took them to Steak n Shake in the middle of the night, so they must be open quite late. ;-D

The campus is gorgeous – I know it just made Bing Travel’s list of the nations 14 most scenic campuses (listed in no order). D’s dorm is RIGHT on a perfect white sand beach (sometimes the sand is white and sometimes the snow is?).
