Living and Learning Programs at UMd College Park help.

I was admitted to the Honors College at UMd College Park and was accepted into the Gemstone Living and Learning program. However, after doing more research on the Living and Learning programs, I've realized that I would rather like to be part of University Honors. Is there a way I can change?

B is for bump

I agree with your desire to switch. Gemstone just sounds time consuming and difficult. If it works anything like switching in scholars, it will likely place you at the end of the list so to speak. You likely won’t be guaranteed your switch. I’ll do some research though.

Do you happen to know how to request a switch?

In scholars, its basically like taking yourself out and self-nominating. Honors doesn’t have a self-nomination option so if its possible, it must work some other way. I just searched the site and turned up empty. You should try shooting them an email. It couldn’t hurt.

[Honors College University of Maryland](http://www.honors.umd.edu/current_student.php)

I sent one to honors@umd.edu yesterday and haven’t gotten a response yet

You can switch into University Honors at anytime. I would stay with Gemstone for the first semester if only b/c I hear GEMS100 is easier than HONR1000 and they are interchangeable for Honors Requirements :P

If you REALLY don’t want to stay in gemstone, just don’t register for GEMS100 when you choose classes in the summer for the fall.

DONT SWITCH!! You can switch into University Honors at any time if you dont like your honors program(after a semester). Even if you feel Gemstone isnt a good fit, taking the intro course for the first semester will not be much different from taking HONR100. If you switch out of a specific honors program, like gemstone or EIP you will not be able to switch back in, ever. Also, youll be in ellicot, as opposed to hagerstown. Personally, I think ellicot is a much nicer building.
