Living in dorms again Sophomore year?

I lived in dorms this semester, and had a great time and made a lot of friends. Unfortunately, because of transfers/my friends losing housing/getting kicked out of school, many of my close friends won't be around by next year. A few of them are trying to get me to live in an on-campus apartment with them, but I'm torn because I'm afraid that it will be really boring with just the six of us and its really not the same as hanging out with the whole dorm. Most of the fun of dorm life was having all your friends down the hall.

I figure if I live in the same dorm room next year I will be able to meet even more people (all my best friends are from freshman year dorms). Also this time around I won't make some of the dumb mistakes I did this year, like being way too drunk to speak and not meeting enough girls. Plus I get cool points for being a sophomore and knowing about college. My RA is staying too, and he's really chill.

I would just feel really bad if I turned my friends down, because I consider them my best friends, and with only five they it would be even worse than six. They're great guys but I'm afraid we'll spend too much cooped up in our apartment. We spent too much time this year sitting on our asses. Best case I can help them too and get them out of the apartment.

Thanks for any input, the housing assignment deadline is coming next week.

Freshman year is usually the big, social dorm experience. After that everyone starts to move in with their friends anyway, so that’s what I’m doing as a junior and what I would recommend for you. I had to live in the dorms as a sophomore and I think the fun of the freshman dorms is from the fact that college is still new and one big party. As a second-year, people keep to themselves and usually leave the dorm to socialize. And rooming with your friends is what you make it - it could turn out to be really fun in its own way.

Yup, I liked dorm life frosh year. By soph year and the hundredth 2am fire alarm, I hated it. So what’s the answer? Heck if I know! Worst case scenario, it sounds like you’ll have a friendly apt to hang when you get tired of dorm life. GL
