Living Learning Programs

Hey! I was wondering about the general personality/vibe/reputation of each of the living learning communities. Obviously it depends on who is in it, but usually certain personality types gravitate towards certain groups. Anyone have any insight?

For starters, the living learning communities aren’t super meaningful unless you’re specifically selecting the PRIDE community. That one is primarily directed at supporting lgbtq students. The college-specific communities obviously attract students from those colleges, with the college of engineering community seeming to be the one of greatest interest to engineering students. Polytech tends to attract mostly Computer Science and Engineering types and some Liberal Arts students interested in user interface and game design. Mindful Living and Global Living get a good mix of the different majors and are probably the most generic of the descriptions. ICommunity and Collaborative leadership tend to attract a lot of business majors and ASI/ASB types. Substance free attracts a mix of serious students and religious students. Don’t lose a lot of sleep over selecting your learning community because most of the themes are reallly just a way of giving students one more way to connect with their fellow students and the theme comes through with 1 or 2 optional activities planned each quarter by the RA’s. It’s very dependent on whether your RA is super hung ho or not. You’ll meet a lot of students during orientation week, or “WOW” and in your classes. The student body in general is very friendly and welcoming, and clubs are a HUGE thing on campus for meeting people and getting connected. Good luck with your application!
