I'm planning to live off campus next year.

When should i start looking for houses? I heard that there is already a waitlist.

Why do most people choose to live on apartments rather than houses? My roommate is looking into houses but I'm wondering what's better, houses or apartments. Houses seem to be fairly priced than apartments. so i don't know if it's just a a norm that everyone chooses to live on apartments...

you mean renting a house not buying one, right?

i suppose it’s more conventional to rent an apartment…
also i think there are more things to worry about if you rent a house versus an apartment.

Because the apartments in La Jolla are all clustered around the UCSD shuttle system. Where you live will depend mostly on how many people you have and how much you’re willing to pay. You should start looking at places, but you won’t really be putting a deposit down and stuff until 1-2 months beforehand.

I don’t go to UCSD but my sister goes there and has lived there 5 years (4 years undergrad, 1 year grad). I also have a bunch of family friends who go there.

Everyone I know has told me an apartment is the best best. A lot better than dorms, and a lot better than renting a house. There’s a bunch of apartments close to UCSD which is definitely convenient & generally speaking, a house would cost a lot more. The apartments are really nice too! Canyon View, La Jolla Canyon, Regents La Jolla, Summerset Village (near Mira Mesa), and there’s more. They can get pricey though. Good luck! Regents La Jolla is definitely worth it if you can get a good deal.
