Hello, I am a prospective transfer student for Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. I currently attend a community college and my parents have decided to move out of state and now I am trying to transfer ASAP so I can figure out a place to live. I want to transfer for this coming spring semester. I should have a 3.3 gpa after I am done with my summer classes. I will have less than 30 transferable units, so therefore I need to submit my highschool transcripts. I did not do well at all in highschool due to personal issues, and I am worried that I will not be admitted due to my highschool grades. Do I have any chance at getting into this school at all? I talked to the transfer center and they basically just told me to apply and find out, I am planning on applying after my summer school grades are published.
@brrrrr I’m sorry to hear about the predicament that you’re in. It honestly wouldn’t hurt to try. During the application process, you will get a chance to explain how much you have accomplished since your high school days. Try adding on some extra-circulars to buff up your profile. Although it may not be a huge buffer, it does tend to make a difference when they compare you to another applicant with similar grades. What is your choice of major?
Hi! Thanks for the response! I want to major in political science. I did cheerleading in at my community college so i’ll make sure to add that to my application!
That’s great! Doing extra-circular activities at your school is a great way to show transferring schools that you have school pride and have great time management. Make sure to try your best in your classes this Spring semester! Progress is always important. Give it your best!
