I just got an email yesterday saying I was admitted to the honors program. I wasn't really expecting to get in so I was really excited, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me more about it? What does it mean to be in the honors program exactly? And has anyone else heard back?

Hey kennimom, I’ve applied for the programme although I haven’t heard back yet. Try emailing the Honours programme with your questions. I’ve spoken to a couple of students in the programme and they were very friendly and helpful. Seems like that although there’s a lot of work to do, it’s a nice community to be part of and the relationships with your teachers are more rewarding.

What major have you applied for, may I ask? I got accepted for Film and TV but I’m still waiting to hear back from other colleges before I make my decision.

Hi flippyadop,
I applied as a theatre major but I haven’t actually heard back from that department yet. That’s really exciting that you got accepted as a film major-not easy! I’m also waiting to hear from a few more to make my decision, but thanks for the input on the honors program, I think I probably will email them!

D is a freshman this year in the honors program, quite happy with it, likes the smaller classes and the students in it. She has found it challenging, lots of reading and writing. She is actually behind on taking honors classes, which takes the place of regular general requirements, but it sounds like it is no big deal if you don’t do the full schedule your freshman year. They require a 3.5 to stay in the program, and she is on probation now since she got a 3.49 first semester (what a slacker).
Didn’t want to be in honors floor of dorm at Del Rey South (tired of nerdy stereotype from small town life) but has actually loved her room mate and people on her floor. Students are fun, but serious about their studies. She will do honors floor dorm next year also.
Other honors program perks are grant opportunities.

Anyone who applied before March 22 not heard back yet? I applied for the second round and was told I’d hear by March 30th. On the website it says we’d hear back by April 1st but I still haven’t heard anything. I sent them an email but no reply. I would call but April 1st isn’t really over yet so I’m not really justified in calling…

Do you have to apply for the honors program?

Yes, you do. You still have time to apply if you’re interested, but I would advise to send in your application ASAP because the deadline for the second round has already passed: [University Honors Program](http://www.lmu.edu/page405.aspx)
