Same as @bsmom123. Scholars weekend but significantly lower Arupe than some here. Do not qualify for need.
Congrats to all of you!
Merit awards are always determined completely independent of need-based aid.
@CAMidwestMom @anothermuggle How were you notified ?
I logged onto MyAid this morning. Not sure if son got an email. We made the mistake of using his school email for the App and he doesn’t always get on before I find out here what is going on lol.
@IntBritishBurton I received an email saying that my MyAid portal had been updated at 3am PT this morning (February 1st)
My S received a scholarship (don’t recall the name) of $12,700, plus a $2k EA award and $2k work study award. His stats are 1940 SAT, ~3.9 GPA with good ECs, and school sports as well. I expected LMU’s award to be somewhere between Santa Clara and USF, Chapman and other Jesuit schools, but after seeing some of the other awards posted, I’m wondering why the scholarship wasn’t higher. In case it matters, my S is a business major, so maybe it matters that he’s not applying to the film program that I hear so much about. Any opinions?
I think it always comes down to there partly being things we will not be able to figure out. My son applied to six Jesuit schools. Three gave a modest award, one almost nothing - literally - and the two CA schools came through with the most. My thoughts are that they may want kids from the Midwest to add to the overall diversity. The only other thing for my S’s apps in particular is that the two Cal schools were the last apps he did. Both had supplemental essays and I know his essays were very good. Obviously I am biased, but I’m also a writer myself and the evolution of his essays from when he started the process v the last couple of Apps was noticeable. Perhaps the essays made a difference.
I really do think most of it is beyond our control. Yes, the stats matter but sometimes it’s impossible to figure out.
Just sort of thinking out loud here. LMU was the last school we were waiting to hear from before narrowing down choices. S has one super reach RD decision, but otherwise he’s done and needs to figure out his choice now. Good luck to everyone on their decisions.
My stats: 3.58 UW GPA, 2060 SAT. I got admitted for Communications and I received a scholarship total of $5000 ($2000 EA, $3000 achievement award).
Received a $38k Arrupe Scholarship and two other smaller schollies for a total of $42K, very excited! Civil Engineering major, 3.97 uw/4.7w, 32 ACT
Just got my acceptance email today, if I got a scholarship would it have been in that email?
@djkap11 I don’t think so. For EA admits, the acceptances came out in December and we just got scholarship info this week.
Oh you guys are EA admits, that makes more sense
Congrats! Sorry if this is a stupid question, is the Arrupe Scholarship over four years or is that annual?
Pretty sure it’s annual! WTG!
@camidwestmom Amazing! Congrats on your son’s award for LMU. I feel like my D and your S are applying to some of the same schools! She finally got her Barrett acceptance this week and of course LMU. We would really need a big scholarship to attend LMU. Fingers crossed.
@mom2one98 I have found there’s a small group of us that keep meeting on the same school threads! Did your D apply to any other Jesuit schools?
@camidwestmom Fordham. SCU was too far north. LMU is ideal since it’s in LA and she wants to do screenwriting/film so great for internships, etc. Applied to USD which is Catholic. USC is still her number one but I’m trying to manage expectations. Rest all public schools in AZ and CA.
Is Fordham on the table? LMU would be pretty great for film, but so would USC.
This year about 30 people were invited and 24 people attended for LMU’s Scholarship weekend. I was just offered at trustee scholarship!!
UW GPA: 4.0
ACT: 35
Congratulations! That’s awesome news!!
