LMU or AU?

I’m trying to decide between chapman, lmu, northeastern and american. I want to major in political science or international relations. I have kind of ruled out chapman (just not that interested) and northeastern (too big) so it’s pretty much between American and LMU.The upside of Chapman is I could play sports there. I got wait-listed for the honors program at LMU but received a lot of merit scholarships there. I want a school with smart articulate people and good IR or poli-sci programs but also good social life. I’m from CA so it would be nice to go out of state but I’m not sure if AU will be too politically focused if I decide to change my major and I’m not sure how the poli sci program is at LMU. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Hey. I’m an AU student from California as well. LMU and AU are completely opposite directions you’ll be heading in and moving out of state will definitely be a game changer.

As for your concerns about switching your major from polisci, it won’t be a big deal if you’ve narrowed down what you want to polisci/IR since both majors are the most prevalent and strongest on campus. IR majors are 25% of the school and social sciences take up 46% of the school. That’s what made me more comfortable about my decision coming to AU because I knew I was going to either do polisci/IR or some other type of social science major. And obviously I’m not sure how familiar you are with IR but as a Californian yourself you should know AU trumps LMU in IR. And you probably already know AU is very political so whichever major you choose you should be fine.

Everything set aside, I’ve never heard anything about LMU’s programs in polisci/IR… I usually hear about their med school program.

That’s just my 2 cents. Best of luck on your college decision making process!

Interesting, LMU was my first choice school for a while until I discovered American. Like you, I was also considering a political science/IR major. After researching AU, I came to the conclusion that AU was undoubtedly superior to LMU in political science/IR. If you wanted to change your major, AU is also strong in other subjects aside from IR.
If I were you I would, with no doubt, choose American. However, I wish you the best of luck! I loved LMU when I visited, and if it weren’t for AU’s amazing opportunities, I would probably be attending LMU. :)
