My son received a guaranteed loa Jan 4. Congressional nomination were given out in begining of DEC but he did not receive one. His only other source is a vice presidential nomination, which they say he is very competitive for one. My question is if he doesn't get a V.P nom. where do we go from there?

If your son doesn't receive a VP nomination, his last opportunity will be one of the Superintendent's 50 nominations. Your son will need to talk to the Candidate Guidance Office about his situation. Since your son has an LOA, the Admissions Office should be inclined to assist in obtaining a nomination.

He has talked to vp office contact and his mother talked to his regional director and it sounds like he is very competetive for a vp nomination. I haven't been told anything about a superintendent nomination. I do appreciate your resonse to my question. It has been a nerve racking ordeal, but I can say my son has been taking it all in stride. He is to attend the candidate weekend visit in about 2 weeks then he will probably learn more on his situation.

This subject will be discussed at length during the CVW's parent session. Last January when we attended CVW the whole LOA and Nomination process was at least 95% of the parent question and answer session.

Thanks for the information. It will at least put us at ease for now. Does anyone know how hard the V.P. nomination are to get?

While only you and Dick Cheney know the specifics of your case, I'd be concerned were I trying to compete with 14K others who've written to him asking for such.

CVW parent session? We're going in two weeks and haven't received any information for parents.

Last year after the candidates checked in there was a program for both the candidates and their parents. The candidates were then matched up with midshipmen and left to attend class. The next hour or so before the tours of the yard started the admissions staff held an answer and question session. The tour also takes you into some of the academic buildings and the Library, other than at IDay, Plebe Parents weekend and Firsties Parents Weekend, this will be the only time you will be able to tour those building’s as they are not on the Visitor Center's Tour.

Maybe someone who went this fall can inform this thread if anything has changed.

Info from Profmom2 is what our BGO told us will happen, as well. (We go in March.) I'm doubtful that much info will come to us as parents, as, from what I understand of it, this is basically a time for the candidate to make "for certain" that this is where they'd like to attend, and perhaps one more peek for the USNA to take of the candidate. Events for parents are likely more for courtesy and to answer any remaining qualms we might have as parents. Just like it shows on I-Day, the kids are swept away into the bowels of the Academy, and churn out at an appointed time for us to collect them later. But, plenty to see and do in Annapolis, Baltimore, and DC... So, none of us should feel that we have time to kill with so much history to see and experience...

You'll not, but parents are invited to participate in the opening Q & A session, then as students ("drags" as the locals refer to them) are dismissed to connect with their hosting Mid, there is a private Q & A where everything is fair game in the absence of students.

Parents are also invited to attend the Friday a.m. sessions @ 8:30 a.m.?? which is a panel of USNA alums discussing opportunities for an hour or so. Then a 2nd panel convenes an hour later and these are Mids answering questions.

All in all very informative. If these are same. (You might want to contact admissions and ask them. It seemed that some parents had the "scoop" and the rest of us went along with it. We attended the October CVW.

Like you, we'd sort of perceived this as a "drop him off, hit the road, pick him up Saturday" type of thing (like NASS minus the "graduation" ceremony) @ 5:30p.m. there in Rickover Hall. It was not, and we did not depart the Q & A until about 9 p.m. on Thursday eve. VERY helpful and informative time with the Director of Admissions and the regional officers from her staff.

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes I feel like our family is all alone sitting in the dark.

EagleMom not to be a pessimist, but you will still feel that way after an appointment, after the acceptance papers are sent back in and certainly after IDay.

Even after one semester, there are still a lot of unanswered questions that even my Mid doesn't have a clue about and prefers to stay that way!

does anyone know that if my son doesn't get V.P nom, when does the superintendent nominations go out?

was wondering the same thing too...can anyone answer the question about super nomination?
