I know that the Academy already sent out the first batch of LOA's in September, except will they send out any more batches before April? Once they look over a candidates file, what steps of action do they take, and when?

Candidate files are reviewed as soon as they are complete. The Admissions board meets every thursday (tuesdays get added in somewhere along the line, not sure when).... LOAs go out usually through December, although some have stated they have received them after that.... but generally speaking, they go out to the most highly qualified candidates as a balance (so to speak) to EA and ED college choices that are also under consideration by these candidates.

Files are looked at on a "rolling admissions" basis.... with a decision right now to offer LOA, hold, or decline. Keep in mind this is very early in the process.... lots of waiting time ahead. LOAs are used sparingly- not everyone who eventually gets offered an appointment gets an LOA, just something to keep in mind.

^^^^^
In addition to LOAs, the Admissions Board also sends out letters notifying candidates who are found to be academically qualified to compete for an appointment.

I spoke to an admissions worker today about the selection board and LOAs.

She said at this point in time an application will go to the selection board 2-3 weeks after it is completed, simply due to the amount of applications currently in progress.

She also said an LOA or a qualifying notification should arrive within 1-2 weeks of the selection board reviewing your application.

Thank you all for the feedback! Except another question that relates to this is when do prospective candidates find out if they did not make it into the Naval Academy. Although I am not hoping for this at all...I was just curious.

Usually the final appointments are given out by April 15th. At least that's what we found out last year.

Typically in the past it has been about April 15th...but also remember they can give you the nod as late as IDay.

"Except another question that relates to this is when do prospective candidates find out if they did not make it into the Naval Academy"

From this years experience.. some never head anything back.. no actual
"NO THANKS" Letter.

FYI.. My daughter recieved her LOA January 17th.
