My son received his LOA reserving a spot for the class of 2016 to usmma contingent upon receiving his congressional apt from our congressman. He interviewed on dec 6th and was told he would hear shortly. My question is how long does shortly mean and has anyone heard about a candadite receiving an loa but no appointment?

If you can you should make sure your members of congress know that your son has an loa. The representatives are supposed to be copied on them but I have heard stories of them not being received.

CONGRATULATIONS! My son received an LOA from USNA.

gkboats,
You might want to post your question in the USMMA area. Look on this site under colleges, US Service Academies. Then you’ll find Merchant Marine Academy. In answer to your question, yes, it can happen where you have a LOA but no nomination. I agree w/ proudpatriot that you should give your Reps and Senators a call informing them of your LOA. (Even if your Rep or Senators already announced their selection, if a subsequent opening occurs they’ll know about your son.) Sounds like your son is a strong candidate. I suggest HE call your Rep’s office and inquire as to when he’ll officially hear about a nomination, and then take the time to mention the LOA. Best of luck to your son!

What was your son’s ACT score?

He scored 33 on the ACT but the academies only look at the math and reading.
