<p>Can anyone who has recieved an LOA enlighten me to their high school resume? What classes were taken, in what activities did you participate, etc.? Stats would also be helpful.</p>

<p>It's very important that you take challenging classes in high school and participate in varsity sports, varsity letters are looked very highly upon. I have taken 6 total AP classes, and even though the academy does not accept AP credits, they like to see that you have taken difficult classes, kept your grades up in them (I think I averaged a high B, low A in all of them) and scored well on the tests. </p>
<p>I'm not trying blow my own horn, I just want to try to give you some numbers here: I got a 33 on my ACT and 1220 on my SAT, my GPA is a 3.8...they like big numbers :)</p>
<p>But grades don't make up the total picture, you need to also be involved. Like I said, varsity sports are a must. I run track and cross country and have varsity letters in both sports. The academy really wants you to be athletically involved and successful in the sports you participate in. Also, clubs at school, like NHS and Key Club, are a good idea, and any type of leadership position (any kind of student government) is good too.</p>
<p>Community service is also important. Really, I don't think there is a set amount of hours they are looking for, but the more the better. Bottom line is they want to see you involved in as much as you can be while still doing well. You really can't be too qualified.</p>
<p>Also just to throw this out there--I'm not sure what stage you are at in the whole application process, but the best thing they can see is that you attended summer seminar. You get a chance for them to see your name earlier, meet some of the coaches they have, and start talking to people--don't wait for them to come find you. And it really is a great experience: you can find out more what the academy is like, see if it is really what you want, and you can meet some people that you can talk to and get advice from as you all apply together.</p>
<p>I got an LOA in January. Let's see, what did I do?
I was a magnet, it's a program for "high achievers" for my state, it's one of the best public schools in the country and you have to apply to get in. I took 5 APs (World, German, US, Physics B, Language) and got good results (5, 4, 4, 2 -whoops-, 4). I got a 2130 SAT (710 Math, 730 Writing, 690 Verbal) and680 Math II. I had a 3.7 GPA when I graduated. I took 2 languages in high school. I also graduated a year early and went to college this year for what should be my senior year. I took Chem and Lab, Calc, International Relations, and an English Class and got a 3.5 for last semester.
I ran XC for 4 years, 3 in high school, 1 in college. I ran track one year and lettered in swimming one year. I have swum competitevily since I was 7. My CFA scores kind of sucked though.
I did lots of volunteer work through out high school. I lifeguarded for 3 years, taught swim lessons for 4, worked at kroger for a while, and babysat for a lot of people. I was in NAHS, SNHS, Beta, German Club, Spanish Club, Kappa Club.
I went to NASS and had a really good time and got what I think was a good rec from my squad leader. I also backpacked around Europe for a month by myself and added that to my essay. I had known my BGO since Junior year and knew him really well so my interview went really well and he placed me in the top 5% of candidates in his report.
Despite reading back all of that I did have a life and I had a lot of fun and went out on weekends. I didn't let all of that consume me even though I was stressed out all of the time.</p>
<p>I'm a Sophomore in college and received an LOA this year after applying last year also. My stats are/were:</p>

4.36 GPA
7 AP classes, 4-5 on every test
1320 on SAT
Ranked 10 out of 690ish
Bunch of clubs, no varsity sport
Dual Enrollment Senior year of high school at a University</p>

3.86 GPA, Dean's List and/or President's List every semester
Honors College
2 Jobs- both as tutors
Got A's in Calc I, II, III, and Differential Equations
93 Credit hours total
Coached youth flag football
