Hi! I am a junior, currently taking 6 AP's (last year took 2+many pre-APs and the year before 1). Class-wise I am doing well, with AP physics C as the exception. xD (however, passing the class doesn't mean passing the AP exam =( for example, in an AP class I(and some others) have over 100% in, the teacher has a 0% pass rate. >.< )

On my past AP's, I've gotten two 3's (AP World and AP Chem during sophomore year)and a 4(AP Human Geo, freshman year).

I am wondering if next year if I should take many AP's or not. I am not exactly a social person -I don't want to go to prom/homecoming/grad night but people say senioritis happens to everyone.

I fear, if I take too many AP's then the chance of passing them with a 4/5 will be lower. Less AP would allow me more time to concentrate on each subject. However, how would colleges and universities see this as? Would taking many AP classes, getting A's in them passing with 3's be better?

If you get mostly 4’s and 5’s this year, colleges will like more AP classes senior year. If you get 3’s and lower, they won’t really care. If you know what classes you want to pass out of in college, you might want to focus on those and take less.

Colleges will never even see your senior year AP exam scores, unless you are using them to skip classes. They will have no role in admission. I’d advise taking as many as you feel comfortable with, as far as work load. All colleges will see for admission is the courses you picked senior year, and mid-year grades, though some will make decisions before even seeing those grades.

Plus, more APs boosts your GPA and rank if you think you can perform well in the class.

I’m pretty sure I can cope with the classes and get A’s… it’s just not being able to pass the exam that I worry that colleges would look down upon. just to clarify…

but now I am confused, do AP exam scores do or do not count against you? Sakata and 082349: do you mean the class or the AP exam score?

Is risking 3’s or 4’s worth it just to get AP State Award (NY= 20+?) Or is that award useless and just a waste of money. Do good colleges care if you take a lot of AP tests and do well (4/5’s) on them?

Don’t forget that it matters which AP courses and tests you choose, not just the number of them. Each university has different policies on what subject credit each AP test gives (and this may vary by major). English and Calculus BC are most likely to be the most useful.

If you’re applying to top colleges…quality and quantity. Not that AP scores matter strongly for admissions, but I’m sure they have the tiniest of pulls. Also, you’ll run the gamut in terms of being able to place out of classes, and you’ll just feel better about yourself for scoring well.

Public universities in Florida give out AP credit like nobody’s business. I’d recommend just going for 3s and 4s for classes you want credit for, but study for 5s/retake the classes in college if they are crucial classes to your major.

okey dokey… I will take loads of APs next year then. I haven’t failed any yet so I will be crossing my fingers. I’m sure the classes will be reasonable to get A’s in (as with many AP classes at our school)

for classes for my major, I am automatically planning to retake in college because since I want to go the medicine route, I think that retaking it would prep me best for the mcat.

do you think this sounds good?

And Keasbey Nights: Thanks for reminding me! yeah i remember looking up credits for world history and it gives the same amount whether you have 3’s 4’s or 5’s… chem, its different but it is a class I plan to retake in college anyways(i got a 3… lucky guessing i guess xD)
