I have been living in America for about 15 years now however since my parents are still on a E2 visa, I am considered an international student and have to pay out of state tuition. I found the perfect school and I’m extremely excited to attend however since i have to pay out of state tuition i cannot afford it. Also i don’t have a social security number either so i cannot apply for certain loans such as Discover and Wells Fargo. I also read plenty of terrible reviews about Sallie Mae so its my last option to have to get a loan from there. Does anyone know what i could do or where i can get a student loan?
You’ll most certainly need a qualified co-signer to get a student loan. If you do have a co-signer, just take them to a bank of your choice. Most online loan applications can’t handle a “primary” applicant without a SSN, but they would be able to process your application in person.
What state are you in?
Your parents won’t pay? 15 years on E2? E2 implies money, no?
That reminds me: E2 students are eligible for in-state tuition rates in most states.
USCIS divides visas into two different categories: visas that prohibit immigration intent (e.g. visitor, student, temporary worker visas) and dual-intent visas (e.g. E, H-1, K, L visas). Persons holding a dual-intent visa are allowed to establish a legal domicile in the US and many are in the process of immigrating to the US. States accommodate by considering students on dual-intent visas for in-state tuition just like US citizens and permanent residents.
Hi! My D is cming to USA as a freshman student of architecture @ UC DAAP. We are from India. We don’t have any co-signer in US. Is there any bank or institution which might give loan to her?
That would have to be in your home country. Any US agency would have to collect payments and that would not be possible outside of the states. How is she coming to the US without sufficient funding? She won’t receive a passport without proving that she has the funds to make it through 4 years expenses and academics.
Thank You AUNT BEA. Provisions are in place. But I felt it is wiser to explore all options.
