LOAs out there?

I’ll shamelessly borrown from the West Point forum. Not sure letters have gone out yet for USAFA, but if they have…

I thought it would be helpful to keep a running list of applicants who have already received an LOA (Letter of Assurance).

Any stats you’d like to reveal:

this good be wrong, but i was talking with an ALO that got connected with through a friend (not my ALO), and he told me USAFA was not giving out LOA's this year. any truth to this?

Last year never heard of anyone getting a USAFA LOA before November. West Point seems to start sending them out very early.

Just shows you how desperate they are to get all these great guys and girls heading off to USAFA. ;)

I didn't get mine until Thanksgiving last year, and have not heard of anyone getting one any sooner than that.

Will the admissions board review your file if it isn't complete yet? Everything has been recieved and processed except for my CFA. It would be really nice to know before Christmas if I will receive an appointment...

I don't think so, but its always possible. LOA's are usually awared, according to my LO, by a high composite score...meaning that if all the factors that go into admission show an unsually high amount, they will give you an LOA. So in theory, its possible, but not likely. Take that CFA ASAP.

They usually come out much later. I didn't get mine until February. Funny thing is, the LOA said I was accepted under the condition that I got my congressional nomination, but I got my nomination letter in the mail about a week earlier :)

I know for a fact that our neighbor's son has a LOA from USMA. He attended one of their SS and completed his PFT as well. His mom called me yestarday to ask a question about the Senator/Congressional packets.
It's to bad he did not consider AFA, West Point will be getting a great kid.

momof3boyz,

Sounds like a very, very smart young man. :D

You are right! His oldest brother is at Case Western, OH and the next oldest received the "President's" ? full ride to Notre Dame.

Smart but not smart enough to go Air Force! ;)

I was told by our coordinator at AF that the first admissions board meet on Oct.2 and that there are several other boards that review the file before a decision is made. I got the impression that December was the timeframe for hearing. Didn't think to ask about LOAs though...

My son received his Loa in the mail today! (I'd insert a big smiley face here if I knew how to!) He was also applying to USMA and USNA, but has decided USAFA is the place for him. He still has to get his nomination, but that's in the works and we feel somewhat confident its not going to be a problem. He's been cleared through Dodmerb and his file is complete. So now what? At what point can I start making reservations and how can I find out what dates to make them for? Am I jumping the gun?

A really proud, and excited mom.

p.s. I've just placed a nice order for some Falcons sportswear for Christmas presents.

Congratulations! I added the smiley for you.

Your son must have received one of the first LOAs. Normally they aren't sent out until November.

jwags, Congratulations to your son!!!! I do have to remind you that they are not "in" without the Nomination AND Appiontment. Once those come....students still have to keep their grades up, stay out of trouble and injury free. Our son never had a LOA but received his nominations to AFA and WP mid November 05'. His Appointment to AFA came (by phone call) on Dec. 16, 05' and WP on Feb 14, 06'. Our son's Appointment status was changed to "pending medical review" after a wrestling injury (torn cartilage in his rib cage). He was medically re-qualified by the beginning of Feb. and reported to BCT in June.

** a saying I saw on CC was "keep them wrapped in bubble wrap" ** :)

He's a gymnast, so not only do I need bubble wrap I need to tie him to the ground. So it sounds like I can't really breath a sigh of relief until he takes the oath?

I got one too (and I don't know how to do the smileys either)!!!!!!

Congrats zman07. Guess that means you and my son will be classmates.

Jwags,
When did your son complete all of the elements of his application and is he being recruited for gymnastics? Thanks.

Our son received his LOA today, also! According to his ALO the board met for the first time on Monday, Oct 16....so this first batch of LOA's must be the result of that board. We are still waiting for his interviews with congressmen, and a nomination. Fingers crossed. Congratulations to everyone!

Note to Redhead89 . . . . he is hoping you get one, too!
